I just watched the full race and the amazing thing is that he starts "going to the arms" and "rigging up" in his form (and face) with 400m to go. Yet somehow he powers through with no noticeable slowdown.
1:47 at 800 and finished with a 27 last 200m. That is awesome.
Honestly, I think we need to have a talk about the bi-carb. Maybe lactate was what made it impossible for humans to improve on the 1:41 of the 1980s. But now, with bi-carb, we might see a new generation of 800m guys doing some real damage to the old norms and expectations in that event...
p.s. If it were just doping then it wouldn't have waited until 2024 to happen. People have tried to dope their way to fast times for decades and nobody got under the level set by Coe-Kipketer-Rudisha. That barrier might get broken now with bi-carb.
