You guys are rough!
Kid had amazing talent in HS, but struggled to find the right fit for a number of years and almost chucked it in. Took a chance on a coach on the other side of the world, who truely believed in his talents and is now finally getting rewarded for all the hard work he puts in. Not saying I’m better than any of the previous coaches, just that maybe I believed in him a little more than the others maybe did and challenged him to think bigger.
The goal for today was to try and run under 2:15 (with an even first 800) and if he blew up, he might still manage to hang on and run 2:16 low. Getting that close to the WR was a surprise. But if you look at the World Aths points, it’s only equivalent to a 3:49 high mile, so maybe the WR is a little soft compared to the others.
Hopefully other athletes out there in a similar position can use this as motivation to keep getting out there and not give up. That said, Josh works harder than any athlete I’ve ever coached, so it’s not just talent alone that leads to success.
