Everyone knows sub elites want a fast American spring race. In fact you can search LRC and find several threads of people asking what they should run in the spring to OTQ and it’s just like.. roll the dice that Boston has a tailwind, do grandmas in June, and other random not-great suggestions like Eugene.
Why is this sandwiched between CIM and Houston? And as close to Christmas as possible?
IMO put it in March or April. Start it at 7am to help keep it cool.
As a NorCal guy and a father of young kids, I’m doing CIM and family Christmas stuff the weekend before Christmas. And if I’m really gunning for a PR then I’ll tack on Houston before I take a full recovery and start a new buildup.
All I know is there is going to be an amateur race with a $500 entry. Serious? Who is paying $500 to run laps around a parking lot? A lot of folks could get flights to Valencia for $500
Why mischaracterize the course? It's not around a parking lot. It's a well maintained road that's beautifully landscaped with desert plants. It's a gorgeous place to run.
But yeah I agree $500 is way too much. They'll be lucky to get anywhere near 1000 entrants. It'll probably only be a few hundred

I was confused by this post, wondering whether they changed the course, because it wasn’t around a parking lot last time.
I applied for the “pro” race. I’ve run 2:16 twice at CIM and finished top 30 at two fall majors before. After having done all the “big” ones this is appealing to me because it’s so small, to be honest. I won’t have to contend with a massive expo, extremely overpriced hotels, the “charming” city that is Sacramento, and I can just focus on running a fast time and then flying home. I’m running Boston this spring for all those other somewhat annoying features that come with a major race.
if they can field a good pack around 2:14 I’ll be a happy guy

There is a fast spring race…. McKirdy Road to Tokyo 3/30. Proven fast course, only $160, fluids for everyone. Men must have run 2:25, women 2:45. Prize structure is 1st: $6000, 2nd: $2500, 3rd: $1000, 4th: $500. Obviously different times of year but if I’m choosing between the two, the choice is clear
