Well Yuda was putting in some surges in the first quarter mile. This should be a quite interesting race.

1:25 ernst van dyk won AGAIN! awesome!
top 3 in pack are kelf, majito, and tuda
15k 44:51 still the same pack
15k pace over a minute and a half faster than Ndeti's CR.
Christ.
Tosa is going to get dropped like a bad habit at some point in this race, she is doing too much of the work.
mile 14 for women 529..bit faster 7 in lead group now.
15K splits:
Sell 46:28
Moulton 47:44
Verran 47:44
Two packs of three for the men. Meb in lead pack. Just glanced up...did not see Culpepper.

Christ.
He ran a negative split, though. They won't do that today. This will be an elimination race. Cool.
culp got handled at that freescale half by a couple of no-names.
meb looks f ing great...he is determined. he looks the sharpest out of the three period.
2:07 pace, 4:40 last mile, constant surges, this is a declaration of war. its really sick.
Mile 11 in 4:43. Meb in front, pack of three. Next pack of three about 5 seconds back. Culp in ninth, about 10-15 seconds off. He's (Culp) still very much in it if he can survive this early pace and finish strong, which is has been his MO.
Men 10 Miles:
The leaders passed 15K in 44:51, a 2:06:09 pace, which would be a course record. Yuda continues to force the pace, and things are beginning to break up. Meb still in second, and John Korir near him. Culpepper is probably 30 yards back now. Some of these guys are going to pay a price over the second half, and be passed by those who stuck to a conservative 5 minute pace.

And somehow he managed to finish 4th last year. Imagine that.
10 miles at sub 2:06:10 pace, someone hit John Yuda in the head he is causing chaos with his frontrunning. The will be several runners suffering later stages because of John Yuda, hopefully Mebrahtom won't be one of them.

Yeah, no kidding. This is could be a brutal finish for some of these guys. Anyone in any of the 3 top packs still has a chance.
Do they still give checkpoint times; like Framingham station, Natick etc.? Records of splits at those points have been kept way back for years. Frankly, I'd guess that guys twenty five years ago went through 15k faster than that. As others have noted, Boston has a few stretches which drop precipitously.
Culp is 60-80 yards back of the leaders from what I see. He's in a pack of three other guys I believe. Meb looks great, Maiyo looks pretty relaxed, he takes one step for every two for Meb it seems.
This race is gonna be very ugly at the end.
