Hurricanes are very different now. Helene and Milton went from tropical storm to cat 4 in less than two days. Beryl was a storm that should have dissipated quickly once it made landfall, but was so large that it brough hurricane force winds well inland, knocking out power for most of the Houston area. Helene and Harvey were also massive rain events because in a warming planet, the steering currents are weaker, allowing storms to stall out and dump 30-50 inches of rain. But where global warming really makes these storms worse is that sea level rise means bigger storm surges. That is going to be the biggest risk from Milton. Fortunately, as a late season hurricane it will get pushed through relatively quickly by a cool front.
Who know who else denied climate change? The dinosaurs. The environment they lived in was much warmer than today, and look what happened to them. If only they had gotten rid of their gas leaf blowers.
Republicans love this, another reason to push their socialist agenda and print more money to hand out. Everyone should be getting a lot more than $750. The sky is the limit on the amount of money that should be printed and given away.
Not that it makes a lick of difference whether or not this hurricane were to have taken place, but Desantis is not a climate change denier. Do some research before you post next time.
While it is true that DeSantis is not responsible for the intensity of this hurricane his policy of not allowing any bills that reference climate change does make him responsible for hurricane intensity at some point in the future - 20 years? 30 years? Who knows, maybe 50-100 years.
Florida is 13th among the states in per Capita CO2 emissions. They could curb 100% of their CO2 emissions tomorrow, it would not have a notable change on this storm or others in the future in the least (0.5%). US CO2 emissions per capita have declined about 40% since 2000 (start of the George W Bush Amdinistration). Meanwhile, global CO2 has risen 45% over that same period.
Max sustained winds are up to 175 mph. Only 8 storms in modern history have exceeded 175 mph. In 24 hours, this storm went from 80 mph sustained winds and 988 mb pressure to 175 mph and 911 mb. 908 mb would put it in the top 10 for pressure.
This is a "hundred year storm" so you'd expect one every ~100 hundred years which is to say, they are expected to occur.
Temperatures fluctuate. We've had a slight cooling the past 10 years and hurricane count and intensity is down over the past 20 years.
You all should consider this storm a reversion to the mean and not the result of a trend that we ultimately have little control over (the global warming hoax).
Are you insane or just a liar? Even if you try to claim that is just the past 174 years, there sure hasn't been a slight cooling over the past ten.
2014–2023 The 10 warmest years in the 174-year record have all occurred during the last decade (2014–2023).Jan 17, 2024

Hence why I said his current policies had nothing to do with this hurricane, but that continuing his policies - and the policies of other so-called "conservatives" - would lead to yet more problems with the climate in 20 or 30 or 50 years. Try to improve your reading comprehension.

even a "hurricane and tornado control device" that was abandoned
Project Stormfury and Operation Popeye go back to the 1960s, but hurricane seeding happened as early as 1947 that we know of
even NOAA's own "Weather Modification Project Reports" cites 9 activities, including "using lasers or other sources of electromagnetic radiation"
This all makes sense, given Helene's completely unexpected last minute hook, and the numerous radar anomalies we saw with that (and are seeing with Milton)
Sorry folks, but nefarious operations by HAARP and NEXRAD aren't exactly 'conspiracy theory'

I'm in Carrollwood. North Tampa. Staying put. Riding this out. No evacuation zone here. So many Southern live oaks in this area and they drop branches in small breezes. Gonna be a mess.

And now max sustained winds are at 180 mph and pressure is down to 905 mb. Milton is now top 10 in modern history for intensity.
