Why oh why would you film so much spouse/kid scenes if you're only going to have six thirty minute episodes? There's just not enough meat in this show. They didn't even film live Henrik/Filip reactions to Jakob losing 1500/winning 5000. At least now I understand why Filip/Henrik keep running - they all live in freakin mansions with private gyms, don't know how that works but clearly finances will never be an issue for those guys.
Explanation for the money is endurance sports are a big deal in Norway so they get lots of sponsorship money.
It seems like they live close, so I wondered why the wives didn't hang out and help each other while their husbands were away. They made a point to focus on the discontent over the long absences, and I was just left wondering why the 3 of them didn't pull together.
Cos if they had focused on that 80% of men here would have called them attention seeking beaches that stole too much screen time for themselves - are you new here?
The real problem is the life of professional distance runners is inherently boring. I thought it was fascinating how much focus Jakob puts on resting and not expending any extra energy when not training. Given the fact that the most an elite could actually train is like 2ish hrs a day, that leaves a lot of time to fill to make a compelling TV drama. The reason why Jakob is so incredibly good because his life is incredibly BORING... and that does not compelling television make
it's not the same without Gjert that's for sure. The new show was decent but not nearly as good as the original. They also didn't show a lot of his top races and training, it was more the whiny wives and family life.
You would think that they'd at least give a little insight into the training; seeing as that's the most fascinating thing about them.
How do you take a 6'1" square-jawed Norwegian and turn him into the best 1500-5k runner in the world?
They don't even try to answer this, and by doing so, they kind of diminish Jakob's achievements. Such feats by anyone born outside of East/North Africa were absolutely unthinkable 10 years ago.
I thought not showing the Monaco race was kinda bizarre. I thought that was pretty important to the story, showing that he had shaken off his late start to his season and was back to being the best in the world heading into the Olympics.
And it was pretty clear they could only show like 15-20 seconds of footage from each Olympic race because of contractual rights, which was a bummer since that was the climax of the season. Also feel like they could have had some basic explanations as to why its so difficult to lead a race from the front (Wind resistance, pacing, etc..), I doubt any casual viewers understood why he lost the Olympic final
Overall it was cool to see some of the behind the scenes footage of an athletes life, but the storytelling was a bit all over the place.
Pretty sure people were saying they have an LLC where a lot of the $ goes and thats not publicly available info
INTERESTING
This must be the case. During one of the first episodes they said something about how Jakob is in a rare category for Nike. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was making $5million a year. I forget exactly what the said but pretty sure the compared him to like Lebrun and Jordan in Nikes eyes

In Seb Coe's Born to Run movie, Seb also mentioned that he had trouble with stairs some days because he had to conserve energy. Personally, way back when I was training hard, I took an elevator half a floor from the basement to the terrace a few times at work because my legs were shot.
What a disappointment. Spent more time on the washed up brothers than Jakob. Didn’t even show his 3:26.
It showed his 7:17 at the very end which is something! But I agree, it should have showed the 3:26. If they can get access to Olympic footage, they should be able to get access to DL Monaco footage.

Rojo, if you're reading this, can you look up the income of the brothers. I remember you finding that website or registry or whatever it was that showed what Jakob and Karsten were making.
It's surprising Filip and Henrik are living baller lifestyles for what they have done in the sport.
I THINK (not completely certain) that the brothers - at least to some extent - share their earnings.
I think there have been talks about a company which they own equally. Before the break with Gjert he should have had an equal share as well.
