I really hope it succeeds in bringing more eyes to the sport, getting high viewership, and gives us fast and exciting races.
That said, I'm on their website and there is no schedule or information on TV or streaming (if there even is any).
This is basic information we really need 2 days out.
Yeah, additionally, the outdoor T&F season is over! The weather will be cool, at best, not great for any of the sprints. Outside of LRC, not one peep from any media source about the races. Later, when it fails, they will blame everyone but themselves for the lack of marketing strategy.
Basically the same issue that plagues the NYC Continental GP (although it was almost sold out this year).
Hope it succeeds.
I can’t agree on the media coverage. I can’t remember Forbes ever writing about the Pre Classic. And it seems like there’s an ad for it every time I open Instagram.
I was kind of interested, but the megan the stallion musical act kind of turns me off the whole thing. I think I got enough women's track with DL.
I'm 65 and white and you sound like the typical old white man. I thank God that I am not like you.
OK, you don't like Megan, but to be turned off from a track meet because of that sounds a little like football people "boycotting" because of Taylor Swift.
After digging into their Instagram posts, I found that it will be streamed FREE on Youtube starting at 7:30 PM. Great news!! No idea on the schedule, still.
7:30 PM in which time zone?
I live in GMT -3 and really, REALLY want to watch this event.
I mean, I would watch Faith Kipyegon doing a recovery run for christ's sake 🤷♀️😂
It's not a road race. More woke garbage. Women and men compete separately for the most part. I only say that because of fake women. I don't see either gender getting in the way of the other.

Yeah, some of you don't seem able to look outside of "what's in this for me?"
I think the event is a good idea not necessarily because it's a women-only. I love that track is coed and that fans generally follow the female athletes as much as they do the men. Someone mentioned the NCAA champs format of having men and women alternate days and I don't like it because I think the separation enforces "otherness" for lack of a better term.
That's a lot of pressure asking it to transform the sport, but here's what it's doing right:
- Capitalizing on the recent increase in women's Olympic sports popularity.
- Keeping it short and fast-paced with a select number of races and athletes.
- Picking a lane (pun not intended). They identified a target consumer and have thoughtfully considered them in their planning strategy.
Will any of this suddenly turn track into the NFL as far as popularity? No, but it will likely do a good job of making the sport seem more entertaining and fun, as well as increase fans of the individual athletes competing.
- Most of the people attending this meet will be there to see the concert. The track meet is just like the opening band at the concert that nobody has ever heard of before and you need get through it to get to the main event.
- 20 minutes between events is a LONG time for people who are not true track fans. By the time 8:15 rolls around, many people will have been at the stadium for at least two hours and watched a total of two 100m races involving only six athletes each. There is too much down time. Before seeing the schedule, I thought they might be planning on having a race, then the Stallion lady sings a song, then another race, another song, etc.
- Along with the above, they should have filled the time with some field events. Pole Vault is always a huge attraction for non-track fans because it seems so daring and dangerous. The US has Katie Moon (2x WC gold, Olympic gold and silver) and Sandi Morris (3x WC silver and Olympic silver), and I doubt Alysha Newman (Olympic bronze and social media star) would turn down the opportunity to compete. In Paris, the US went gold (Tara Davis-Woodhall), bronze (Jasmine Moore), and 6th (Monae' Nichols). Could have been an exciting competition.

I might have jumped the gun (I'm full of puns today) on saying "fast-paced." We will have to wait and see what they do between events, but there is mention of having a DJ and hype songs. The challenge will be to be able to make it both entertaining for the spectators attending and for the rest of us watching online.
Having the DJ and Megan Thee Stallion, I think they should have spectators on the infield. This would work even better at a smaller indoor track venue.
Good to hear. I don't watch any of the morning shows and not aware of what goes on in TS. TS is super congested and getting to Randall's Island is easy for Manhattanites, so I hope they get a good crowd.
Like I said, hope it succeeds.
Getting to Randall's Island is assuredly not easy. No subway, so a bus that gets very crowded and picks up at East Harlem. Citibike is an option potentially, but dicey with parking. Ultimately Uber/Lyft necessarily has to be the preferred option for many people who don't have a car. It looks like they are building a pedestrian bridge that goes to the part of the Island closer to the stadium, which could be nice in the future. Not sure how many people would want to use that at night though.
I really hope it succeeds as well, but there's no question that the location isn't the best, which seems to be a problem that plagues most outdoor tracks in the USA.
The location is fine. I attended a USATF event there this summer and it was full. Queens is full of Jamaicans (and others of Caribbean descent) that absolutely love track and I think there are people in NYC that would want to see Meghan thee Stallion. However weather in NYC is terrible today. Cold and rainy so not good for a track even or outdoor concert.

Look I didn’t say it’s awful, but it’s far from convenient. People are constantly asking about this meet and NYC Grand Prix nearing sellouts, but that is down to the venue location in my eyes. For consistent attendance at outdoor track venues, you’ll need options that are more on par with the convenience of the better outdoor soccer/baseball stadiums.
I think it depends on a lot of things; if they have the events people want to watch live (and whether we distance runners like it or not, it's not the 10k, it's the high jump, pole vault and the sprints). And it depends on whether the tickets are affordable. Of course the latter reduces the prize pot which decreases the competitiveness of the meet. Who knows which way it'll go, but it's worth trying.
The WNBA's popularity is purely due to one generational talent (Caitlin Clark) having her rookie season this year.
I don't think Athlos has anyone remotely close to that level of fame or popularity running for them. We would all know for sure if they did, because the mainstream media wouldn't keep quiet about it.
Hey it could be worse. They could be like youth usatf nj and host regionals at a rundown track next to a highway with improper jump sand and a shot put circle that floods in jersey city.

Nope. Icahn sucks for watching field events, would have been terrible.
