I have little respect for NCAA teams that assemble foreign XC Teams

What someone should do is take pictures of the current american freshman from 4th-8th grade and show the ncaa this is what the following American athletes looked like while the following 40+ athletes attended “high school” before joining the following universities.

it’s hard to put it into context until i realized what my child was doing and looked like in 2013-2017 while some of these athletes attended high school.

It's crazy that we've adopted the "life isn't fair mantra" to tell 18 year olds they have to compete with a 29 year old foreigner for very finite and valuable taxpayer funded college scholarships instead of just saying the reverse to non-US citizens

Taxpayers do not fund athletic scholarships at US colleges. Athletic departments fund them, activity fees fund them. State legislatures do not allow taxpayer money to be used for athletic scholarships. And at 18 you're legally an adult and might as well start learning that life is not fair if you haven't already begun to.

Well no they really are not running faster. I admit that I used to think that way to when I was in my teens.

The ncaa reforms, if any, should just ensure adequate attention to the academic credentials of students admitted for athletics and the progress they make as students.

Kudos to a 27yr old freshman if he/she is equipped to study at the school they attend and takes their education seriously.

Specifically, this is happening in XC and distance runners within T&F. ...But it does happen in Football too, to a large degree at the QB position with junior college transfers to D1. For some NCAA sports, youth is prevalent because youth is an advantage (gymnastics, diving) and many sports have their pinnacle point in NCAA and have no legitimate pro level afterwards. Collegiate Rowing, Swimming, Softball, Gymnastics, etc are mostly end points, not a continuum.

I meant it more by the number of kids running fast times. If you ran 9:00.00 for 3200 last year that would put you at 139th on Milesplit in the US (with the 2 mile conversion).

In 2018 that would have had you at 35th!

But come the Olympics and Boston you also kiss the asses of those guys. So which one is it for you?

America would have been a disaster without BYU alums in the marathon.

I for one would not have improved nearly as much as I did if not for the superior foreign runners on my team and beyond. Instead of aiming for 1:50 and 3:45, I had to dig much deeper to run 1:48 and 3:38 and compete with some of the best.

Whatever you do, don't look at any NCAA Tennis rosters. We have a Division 2 school here, 15 players, 0 Americans.

Women's roster: France, Argentina, Denmark, Brazil, Italy, Columbia, Czech Republic.

Men's roster: Columbia x 2, Germany x 3, New Zealand, Italy, Hungary.

Ed Eyestone once said that there was never a race in his life where he'd be facing competition that would be any tougher than what he faced when he ran in a BYU-UTEP dual meet.

Having played college tennis, can admit it frustrated me some at first that college tennis is dominated by internationals but it made me a better tennis player and I made a ton of connections around the world. I’d say it was a net positive for me to be surrounded by international kids. I’d be fine with ncaa issuing some rules on limits for international scholarships but I don’t view teams who recruit internationals as “cheating” or “taking shortcuts” given the current rules allow them to do this.

Whine whine whine. Stop whining. It never ceases to amaze me when white people think they are above having to compete for their positions. For too long this BS has been allowed. Step up to the plate and show us what you've got or go find another sport.

Buffs boss Sean Carlson begs to differ. He seems to regard non-traditional international NCAA athletes as illegetimate competitors and has little concern about the sociological and educational benefits of team diversity. Starting around 13:40 in the video below, Carlson makes crystal clear his intent for the identity of his new squad to be someting quite different.

Some of you seem upset with teams loading up in international athletes. What's the difference to a team like Furman and Rita Gary putting all their scholarship money into distance running and not giving a crap about track and field. At least Oklahoma State puts scholarships into non-distance running events. Seems like consistent thoughts.

He’s entitled to his opinion. If he wants to only recruit American runners, then that is his choice. I could take the same approach and say those who load up on transfer athletes are taking a shortcut. Transfer portal while out of control, is legal so who am I to gripe. Their job as coaches is to win.
