americans didn't grow up used to sports that had more regular season games after the championships took place; it's really anti-climactic
if the NFL, NBA, MLB etc. added a few more regular season games after their post-season championships took place it would look a lot like their all-star/pro-bowl games: nobody really cares
which is just so typical that Jakob would set a new 3000 WR in such an environment: no stress after the olympics in a distance not contested in global champs
peak-jakob: guy is in the wrong sport, should have been a cyclist since they actually embrace TTs
American distance laying a fat egg so far today. Akins last in 2:38, McGorty and Fisher last 2 spots 7:42/7:49, Rooks and Wilkinson last 2 spots 8:35/8:40. Unbelievably poor showing.
Good efforts from Hoppel and Kessler at least. Kinyamal and Crestan certainly benefited from being fresh.
EDIT: DL standings have Hoppel out, though Pattison (injury?) and Sedjati (drugs/injury) might open a spot for him or Cheminingwa.

Arop completely tied up at the end. Looked like he had a shot 150 out.
I knew it was gonna be rough when he went through in 1:15.52 - I think Rudisha went through in low 1:14s when he ran his record
I still think Arop can get the record though, and I sure hope he does, can you imagine a Canadian being the 800m world record holder? The North American record being 1:40.x?

He’s running the 1K in Zagreb. Very well could get that softer WR. 800 may be tough as Wanyonyi will probably be all-in on that for the DL final.

For sure. Good for Kessler to get back under 1:44 for the 3rd time this season, and post another strong post-Olympic run.

Post-championship races are "dumb" to you, yet they produce many WRs. Do you even follow track?
Re how "americans grow up", get real. No American athletes other than sprinters have every had meaningful ability in any of these sports. You think Rooks stunk today because he isn't used to play basketball games after the state final lol?
Pretty cool that Tim Hutchings called this 3000 and also Komen's 1996 race - and did a great job calling both.
He seems super self-important which is a bit annoying, but he is top quality
If you go watch Komen's 1996 race, Hutchings basically laughs at Komen like he is just a dumb Kenyan when he goes out fast. He only eats his words when Komen doesn't slow in the last 1000.
Embarrassing and ignorant call tbh. Surprised he now brags about being on air for it.

I shouldn’t put any limits on what Arop can do after this season, but I don’t think he can break 2:11.96. He’s got good range from 400 to mile but I think that’s what you see from a “perfect” 800 guy, who’s better at 800 than 600 or 1K and basically equal at those two adjacent off-distances. Sub-2:13 would be awesome.

You might be right, but I’ve been encouraged by his past 1ks. He “rabbited” Wightman in 2022 and still under 2:15 I think despite a big fade. Indoors this year similar scenario. All before bi-carb and dropping 1.5s in the 800. So to me he can get through 800 in 1:45 and hang on better than ever.

It was silly how during the race today he was still raving about how Komen went out in a mad 3:55 through 1600…like yeah, he ran 3:55.02 pace for the entire distance.
