Truth be told, he’s already a competitor in the 5k if it were a one off final. But he needs another year or so to get strong enough for the rounds. But if the championship 5ks are going to continue to be won in 13:10-13:20, he can definitely finish very high it not win.

His PR is 12:58 and he laid an egg at the OT 5000m. Even if the pace is slow at a WC or Olympics, the sub-12:40 guys are going to have the advantage over Hocker in a kick. Ingebrigtsen wouldn’t have won at 5000m if he wasn’t capable of 12:40 or faster.
