I had forgotten about Nia Atkins falling in the 2021 trials, but watched the video after it was linked in the recap of yesterday's race. Looks like the EXACT SAME SCENARIO. Athing Mu breaks in without the space to do so, cutting off a runner behind her (Nia Akins in 2021, Raevyn Rodgers yesterday). In 2021, Akins clipped Mu and Akins fell. Yesterday, Rogers clipped Mu, but Mu is the one to fall. In both cases, Mu is cutting off the runners behind her and forcing her way to the inside lanes. Just shocking to see this play itself out exactly the same way for the second trials in a row (it would be great if someone could show these two videos side by side at the same moment). In both cases, I actually think Mu should have been DQ'd. I also think a good coach (and more racing?) would have caught this mistake and corrected it. Either get out fast so you have the position to move to the inside, or maybe pull a Jakob and move from behind. But for two Olympic Trials in a row Mu blew up the race with poor tactics by cutting people off. In 2021 Akins paid for it, yesterday it was Mu. IMO Mu is clearly at fault in both cases.
