Probably healthy. Just old now.
Happens to everyone eventually.

I wouldn’t be mad at it. Go out with a bang
Probably raced enough to take stock of his fitness, saw he had nothing to gain by racing pre and regrouped with his training to squeeze as much altitude and fitness out as he could in the weeks leading up to the trials.
He's been eating here a lot!
where my boy at??
just dialing in the dosages
He's in horrible position to get in on rankings and would almost assuredly need to run the standard in the 1500m final. For that reason, I'm thinking he's 100% dealing with something serious enough that he couldn't improve his chances in a substantial way by running 3:35 at NYC Grand Prix or Portland Track Fest.
Eating steaks with Erriyon Knighton.
Just staying fit enough to squeeze that last drops out of his contract

Yeah, he's dealing with getting old Noah.
I think he decided to focus on getting ready first the trials. He did have to drop out a race earlier in the season because of his hamstrings.
hopefully he is fit and ready to go at the trials. Maybe a couple of hyperbaric chamber sessions before the trials begin would be ideal.
Going to get a huge ovation from the Oregon faithful as he is introduced. Then, proceeds to run a 3:45 and doesn't move on. The adoring crowd stands and cheers as he jogs about and waves to the masses. He turns around at the tunnel and takes in a long last glimpse before leaving the track.
On the day of the 1500 final, a presser is scheduled for Centro to announce his retirement. Great memories! Loves being married! Looking forward to raising a family! Thanks his father, the Powells, etc. and then quietly off to Utah. NBC spends 3/4 of the men's 1500 coverage waxing poetically about the great Matt Centrowitz.

Hate to say it as I’m a huge centro fanboy, but probably true. Except a 3:35 instead of 3:45.

Idle speculation: but very well composed! Plausible, realistic, clever...b.s. Kudos!
This thread from early May is an amusing read. A lot of people were still high on Centro's chances at the trials.
Comment #81 got massively downvoted lol
"If LR had a betting section, I'd give you even odds Centro doesn't even make the finals in Eugene. If he does, I'd give you 20-1 he makes the top 6, and 50-1 he makes the Olympic team.
