With all the doom and gloom surrounding the Brosnan debacle, looks like the new coaches have done a nice job with the current bare bones roster. Mireles sub 4:00, 800's faster than last year on both the men and women and some women making some nice improvements. Things are looking up in Westwood. Great to see they're on the path to recovery from a rough situation.

Hey, it all depends on who you’re competing with. The team is better than it was under Brosnan, but i know that’s not saying much.
They do seem to be showing some improvement and recruiting looks like it’s improved. Most importantly, there don’t seem to be any investigations on the horizon.

Actually, Brosnan did a good job there. He had athletes at NCAA’s and running fast. But I’m not talking aging a distance coach who doing things. Brosnan also hasn’t coached at UCLA in two years. UCLA has been a disaster this year in sprints and such. It’s really bad, but from the sound of it no one is surprised. Bad leadership.

I agree, the issue isn't about past distance, hurdles, or jump coaches. The main problem lies with the head coaches, particularly Joanna Hayes in this scenario. She's really struggling as a first-year head coach. I've heard that working for her can be a nightmare.

Seems it could actually be headed that way I’ve heard they cut 4 or 5 juniors/seniors already pretty much cleaning house from anything Brosnan and before.

Joanna Hayes somehow got it into her head that blaming past coaches will cover up her own incompetence - it's laughable. Instead of actually coaching and focusing on the job she's been given, she's too busy pointing fingers. All she managed was to drag UCLA through one of the worst years they've ever had on Track, all thanks to her piss-poor leadership.

they are not dropping xc. they just are only recruiting walk-ons to the distance end of things . which is exactly what Bush & Larsen did back in the days when ucla was a track power.

She formed a staff of misfits, and surprise, surprise, her first year as head coach was a total sh!t show. Look at USC now, thriving without her. And then there's UCLA this past year, which is a freaking nightmare. Somehow they've managed to fall even lower under her lead.

Hayes started the process made the decision to cut the top 1500m runners for both men and women last year, and she only ended up running two men at XC regionals. It's disappointing to see that Hayes is struggling to achieve success in her coaching events even after that.
