With regards to the Mantz/Young situation at the end, is it possible Conner had a bigger win bonus in his contract, so they agreed he would take 1st and split the bigger pot? No expert on pro contracts here, just curious...
Natosha ran very aggressively for a first-time marathoner and paid the price. Props to her for getting to the finish line after the fast first 10 miles. Her first-timer teammate also ran aggressively, of course, and had a jaw dropping debut. But, not everyone can have those. (Puma must be doing something right with so many finishers.)
Training partners and friends Conner Mantz and Clayton Young claimed the top two spots in the men's Olympic marathon trials Saturday, ensuring each will make...
Fiona O'Keeffe made history multiple times over and got a ticket to Paris as a result: the 25-year-old became the first American woman ever to win the Olympi...
The first 10 finishers in the men’s and women’s races will earn prize money, with the winner of each race getting $80,000. Second place will take home $65,000 and third will get $55,000. After that, the money goes $25,000; $20,000; $15,000; $13,000; $11,000; $9,000 for fourth through ninth. The 10th-place finisher in each race will win $7,000.

I wonder if the top two men pre-agreed to split the combined pot of $145k, so they wouldn't have to wreck themselves in a long battle that could cause one of them to blow up and not make the team. And would be harder to recover from of course.

There is short and skinny and then there is emaciated, one of the top 3 women fits the latter. This will not end well.
here is a crazy thought. Stop commenting on women's bodies you freaking loser
Great line and a great sound bite, but the reality of it is that emaciation, at it's core, is more about the state or condition of ones health than one's appearance. Something we should all be concerned about if we actually care about these athletes. Thinness is merely a symptom of emaciation, and the comment literally juxtaposes the two. Anyone with a brain and an IQ North of 100 would easily understand the difference. Congrats on being subpar.
The last thing an athlete needs is to grab an unsealed bottle of water, with God knows what's in it, and fail doping control. The woman from the Boston marathon (or maybe it was NYC) said that's why their alternative fluid in this situation, for runners who miss their bottle, is always factory-sealed water.
The seals on the bottles were broken by the volunteers before putting them on the table.
O’Keefe and Sisson running 2:22 in a hot, championship-style race should be given major props. They both destroyed the previous US Olympic Trials record of 2:25:38. I know the time still isn’t anything flashy but if they train well for hills and heat we could see another US women’s marathon medalist in Paris. Reminder the heat in Tokyo resulted in the winning time being in the 2:27s.
The LR story says Zach Panning was on pace for the Olympic standard of 2:08:10.
So, nobody in the race hit that standard. Has anyone but Mantz hit it in the qualifying period? Korir has not.
I say only Mantz goes. Sending the others is an embarrassment to America, makes us look like a charity case. Mantz has assumed the Ruppian mantle of serious US elites.
Im watching the Peacock stream with my ex-girlfriend and her husband and we're just sobbing in each other's arms seeing Galen Rupp out of contention, he's been one of our favorite athletes since 2012 when he won Olympic 10k medal, but seeing Mantz has been rejoiceful and my ex's kids are going to join us soon to watch a hopefully thrilling finish for 1st/2nd.

Mantz and Young both have the standard from Chicago.
A question: since USATF won't let anyone chase the Olympic standard after the end of the Trials, can Korir run a half marathon before May and try to get enough points to get in on rankings? And what races would he want to go to get a fast time and enough bonus points to go to Paris on ranking?
Also, does he leapfrog Fauble on the world rankings list based on what he ran today plus bonus points? I thought someone mentioned that he did.
How are financial pre-arrangements to split winnings even allowed? I get it for the runners, but what if this were another sport like football or baseball? Or tennis? Would it be allowed? It just seems strange to me.
