Hello,
Two weeks out from Valencia Marathon, now is the time to set the race strategy up.
I am 30 with a 2:49 PR (Paris 2023, with 40-50 mpw) after 36:00 10k and sub80 HM (8 and 4 weeks out).
Largely increased sustained mileage this summer : 60-65mpw base building cycle, ran 34:37 10k without taper.
Recently ran sub72 on a 20k, equivalent to a sub76 HM (beg. of October, 8 weeks out from Valencia).
Below my weekly mileage and key workouts:
W14 (out) 62M
W13 65M
W12 62M
W11 50M
W10 68M
W9 : 68M
W8 : 50M => 20k race sub72
W7 : 60M
W6 : 70M => 19 miles @6:47 (10 miles @6:01 split in 8x2k rec 1k @7:30)
W5 : 70M => 20 miles @6:54 (11 miles @6:01 split in 6x3k rec 1k @7:45)
W4 : 73M => 20 miles @6:28 (11 miles @5:49 split in 6/5/4/3k rec 1k @7:10)
W3 : 71M => 21 miles @6:25 (13 miles @5:56 split in 10/7/4k rec 1k @7:15)
W2 : 60M
At this point I am hesitating to start the race at 6:06 pace (1:20 first HM), 6:02 (1:19 first HM) or 5:57 (1:18 first HM).
Marathoners with experience in the high 2:3x range, I would appreciate feedback :)
