Several months ago while doing a track workout I felt a sharp pain in my left knee. I stopped the workout and was able to jog home. Since then I have not done any speed work but have managed to maintain fitness through regular runs. Sometimes the pain emerges during a run but if I slow down for a couple of minutes it usually goes away. At times when I start a run it is painful but as I get into the run it goes away. So basically I have been able to manage it but it hasn't gotten better.
My treatment so far has been leg extensions on a machine. My quadriceps are incredibly weak. Initially doing 10 pounds was difficult but now that weight is getting easier and I am able to do more reps without pain. I am also walking backwards uphill on a treadmill and doing some of the "knees over toes" exercises I have found online.
So after several months of trying to run through it, hoping it would heal, it is not getting better. At times it is manageable but i want to get rid of the injury. I would really appreciate any suggestions.
