This is quite surprising news, however I’m sure he will be fine come paris. Jakob got a stress fracture after the European U20 XC champs in Lisbon 2019 and he went on to run 4:50.01 for 2000m and 3:28.68 for 1500m as a 19 year old. Hopefully this isn’t a major injury and he plays it smart for recovering. I also feel like an idiot for dogging on that one thread a few weeks ago that said Jakob was dealing with a leg injury.
And you know this how? There is not one iota of factual evidence to suggest leaving his father has had a negative effect and much soft evidence to indicate it was the best thing he and his brothers could do. His syster was driven out of running altogether by dear old dad.
Of course there is factual evidence. With his dad, he was Olympic 1500 champion. Without his dad, he failed to win the last two 1500 world championships. It doesn’t get any more factual than that.
When you pull out of a race you have to give a reason. I wouldn't blow this out of proportion. I've seen no indication that he's seriously injured -- or that he's injured at all, really, if you take into account the above. The article is about how he is skipping cross to focus on recovery after a long season, and barely mentions that "TV 2 writes that it is an injury."
Well, Jakob had to skip the planned altitude camp (3-4 previous weeks I think -his brother Henrik went without him) so injury it probably is. And skipping Euro xc wasn’t done lightly I think (he confirmed his participation there one month ago…)
Saying that Jakob was sick in January and half of February last winter, and after that he had problems with both hips (Henrik even said Jakob had a pelvis problem at the time) -despite all this he progressed quite well in the season nevertheless… And the announcement of the Norwegian xc team was delayed 5 days -probably because Jakob needed some more days to decide -hopefully this means he considered racing, and that the injury isn’t that bad…

Correlation does not equal causation. There were other differences. The 2021 race played out exactly to his strengths, while 2022 and 2023 not. Those are also facts.
Very sad news for sure. According to NRK.no, Jakob Ingebrigtsens injury is around the Sacrum area. Really hope it's "only" a muscle related injury and not a bone stress issue!
This will also mean that Jakob will not take his seventh(!) Gold medal at European Cross Country Championship: 2016 Chia - Junior race 2017 Šamorín - Junior race 2018 Tilburg - Junior race 2019 Lisbon - Junior race 2021 Dublin - Senior Men 2022 Turin - Senior Men
Hmm I wonder if this isn't the same injury that has bothered him throughout his senior career after a slip on a threadmill due to some oil not being cleaned up after maintenance.
Is this the groin/hip (don’t remember exactly) injury he needed surgery for in late 2020? It was mentioned in one of the Team Ingebrigtsen episodes leading up to Tokyo, and I think they’ve said it has been a continual struggle for him.

Lol yeah, the depth of 1500m field hasn't changed at all since 2021.

Such a stupid comment. The runners who beat him the last two years were both in the Olympic final. He beat them with Gjert. He lost to them without Gjert.
Hopefully Nordas will be able to replace him at the top of this (and other) podium
Nordås just got hammered with a 13’26 for 5km in Lille. Likely just base phase with a fun run after a hard training camp. His training mate was only 4 seconds back.
This is bad news. He's been pretty resilient or fortunate as regards injury problems up to now. Hopefully it wont cost him too much time off and derail his plans for Paris and smashing El G's remaining WRs next summer.
The deal was already done for 35 to 25 years.
And Victorian Empire has gone in the dust long ago.
The real question is: is Jakob able to compete at a good level if he don't run 80% of world competitions before the summer. That was the only way for him to ensure he is in good fitness.
