LRC Note: Hello everyone. Jonathan Gault reached out to Letesnbet's management team to ask them about her grabbing her shorts. They responded that it's "a little bit (of) a habit of Letesenbet at times, that she will learn to control the more experienced she gets."
She had something tucked into the upper left side of her shorts, you can see it on the broadcast. It looks like a long roll in her shorts. she was touching or adjusting it frequently when on camera.
Commentators referred to her potentially going for “fuel”, but unless anyone else ever saw it, there was never a clip of her using a gel.
genuinely surprised obiri had the legs in the sprint, gidey looked like a sit&kit cobra waiting to strike those last few miles.
Earlier in the race, Gidey went for the top of her shorts or her belly more than once, and then when I saw her do it near the end, I wondered if she was suffering some stomach distress throughout the race. But I did, like Uuusiogj, see her go for the upper left side of her shorts. I just wasn't paying really close attention to see if she followed that with a move to her nostrils.
What’s up with Gidey that last 400? Fixing her chain and shorts and gave up the win.
Can someone post a link to video footage?
I loved her tucking in her neckalce, thought she was doing a gloves-off, hats-off move, ready to strike and then realized that Obiri is a damn savage. Best final 100m runner of all-time. Girl can just dig. Her lean up that hill was amazing. Pure Mags.

Getting fidgety at the end of a marathon is pretty normal and everyone has various tics that may be conscious or not. I don't think it was a wardrobe malfunction, I think she was just hurting.
I think she was just tiring and got nervous towards the end and thus got jittery. She’s not much of a kicker and she probably knew that she didn’t have much left against Obiri. She’s great at maintaining a pace especially when there’s a pacer helping her until the very end but she’s not much of a racer. Hopefully her strength improves as she gets older and she’s able to just go off and run a pace that others can’t live with. That’s the only way she’ll be able to win marathons. Especially when she’ll be competing against the same great finishes that she has lost to on the track, the likes of Hassan and Obiri. She still has so much potential left in the marathon though. It would be interesting to see her race after skipping the tracks and go into full marathon prep all year long in the future.

You guys can’t understand this! Since you are not the same culture or for instance don’t even grasp african cultures!
Gidey was kissing the necklace praying for good fate! She comes from a very deep orthodox culture! Many Ethiopian women even carry pictures in their bras or shorts hoping God to help or show mercy! Trust me all the antics you saw was about faith and hope! Hard to understand for you as you would want her to pump those arms but faith is even greater in the Ethiopian culture than technique😉
God gave it to Obiri today but she still was gracious in the end😇
A lot of people constantly touch their face when running to to wipe sweat or whatever. I really expected more of a kick from her, but Hellen was too good. I realize Gidey is no miler, obviously, but with a 14:07 she has plenty of speed.
Hellen's form is so wild in that clip of the last mile. She is nearly slapping her own face with every arm swing. The elastic recoil she gets must outbalance all the inefficiencies.

Gidey knew she was ready to drop a sub 5 mile pace for the final 385 yards. What she didn't know was the Obiri was ready to drop a 4:45 mile pace for the final 385 yards.
Obiri just had too much speed at the end. However, she has the wildest form, arms flying all over the place, as high as her forehead and elbows going way back, her stride all over too--just watch the charge up the last hill. Hasn't exactly killed her career, though.
One poster on the boards once said something in the lines of: "If aliens arrived on Earth and needed an explanation to what running is, a video of Gidey is what they should be shown".
If I recall correctly I gave that quote. But yes, Gidey is a beautiful sight to behold. She runs like somebody skipping stones upon a beautiful mountain lake on a still and sunny day. - In contrast Obiri runs like she is charging directly into a hurricane whilst being attacked by a hive of angry bees……

agree--she at least has one world title from the Eugene 10000m but her style is set up for the time-trialing/WR attempts rather than track championships-a great engine, but doesn't have the horses at the end to beat the likes of Kipyegon etc...yeah it will be cool to see whether she can get the marathon WR!
To all those saying Letesenbet isn’t much of a kicker. The only ones who beat her in races are the four best female distance kickers of all time namely, Obiri, Tsegay, Kipyegon and Hassan. in the the race today Obiri laid down the fastest final mile of all time in the women’s marathon. It’s no disgrace to finish a few second adrift to a performance like that. This being said however, Gidey will undoubtedly need to develop the confidence to surge earlier in order to nullify the kickers. Almaz Ayana had the right approach but nobody else has managed to replicate her mental toughness since it seems…
