No gloves, no hat, no sleeves or tights. Anyone else think they can go out for a run in THAT cold of weather without any of these things? I think he's my newest favorite runner.

id need gloves and a hat... kinda stupid to run without something covering your head because that is where heat escapes first but oh well, it worked for him.
Overheating is much more commonly a limiting factor in performance than being too cold. For a <40 minute race, being a bit too cold is much better than being a bit too warm.
So no, not "kinda stupid," but "kinda smart."
After college he once Pinned a road racing number onto his chest. Blood was running down the entire race. Stupid Yes. The toughest sun of a bitch I know? yes.
I disagree, if you get to hot during a race you can always take the layers off, but if you are to cold then you cant exactly put more clothes on mid-race, so it's better to have hat, gloves, long sleeve etc on than to not have them.
ummm... no, have you ever ran in conditions at zero or below? a hat definitely should be worn and if "overheating" starts to occur you can simply throw it off.
If your parents named you Max King, then u gotta live up to the name.

LOL Quote of the day.
Didn't we have a thread a little while ago about the best unsigned runner in the US? This guy has run 8:32 or so for the steeple and now he takes scalps from Ritz, Hartmann, and many others. I think we have a winner.
what were his PR's in high school?
There are many runners from the northeast who would not wear anything extra in those conditions. He did go to Cornell- Ithaca gets COLD. However, I would have probably advised at least a headband andgolves that could come off easily.
The guy just popped off a huge race and people are criticizing him because he didn't have a hat on in one random picture? Are you serious?
Yeah this guy pimped it.
in the pic he looks a bit like Stev Jones, appropriately enough.
I'm going print this picture off on my wall and everytime I think "It's too cold to run", I'm going to see my Max King picture and run outside naked.
Max was the start of the Crater High School emergence. He was tough, but ran in the in the shadow of John Lucas of Eagle Point and Ian Dobson of Klamath Falls. John went on to run at U of Oregon under Smith. Lucas is now working for Sporthill team sales. He found time with his work schdeule to win the Portland Marathon
Max ran 16:19 (6th place) at state XC his junior year, 16:16 (5th place) his sophomore year, 16:49 (31st place) his freshman year. No state meet placings for track.
He was all-American for USATF Jr. Olympics XC (2nd place) at Kentucky in 1996.
He is 3-peat winner ('03, '04 & '05) and course record holder for the Pear Blossom 10 miler (49:28).
I heard Max King ran his first Marathon at age one, without pooping in his diaper once.
Max King has counted to infinity . . . twice.
I recently saw Max King's running log. He records his miles at the end of the month, last month it said, "Infinity." It said the same thing the month before as well.
