Right wingers are fearful of many, many things. Aren’t they?
This is not by accident. If you can keep right wingers fearful of anything that moves and has a shadow it becomes easier for an authoritarian despot to convince them that “ only he can fix it”.

The odds of me dying in a car accident are still a lot higher than me dying from gun violence. Especially since I'm not in a gang. Half of gun deaths are suicide, and a lot of the remaining ones are inner city gun violence. The odds of being killed by one of those random shootings are very very low. Similar to how the odds of needing one of the guns from a tyrannical government is also low. But the latter would result in way more deaths than would be 'saved' by banning guns. And even if guns were banned, people would still find ways to kill people. There are a ton of stabbings in large european cities to replace what would have been gun violence, and people kill themselves in other ways there.
Pointing out a separate problem does not mean that the topic at hand is not also itself a problem. Vehicular violence is a massive problem in this country that we could solve by investing in mass transit and reimagining the way we design our cities. Gun violence is also a massive problem that we could solve by making it more difficult to obtain a firearm and/or incentivizing people to give up their firearms (eg buyback programs, etc). But sure, we should just keep letting kids get shot at school so you can keep your little Rambo fantasy alive.

The problem is criminals don't care about gun laws. If you're willing to murder someone, you're certainly willing to illegally obtain a firearm. It's likely most of the guns used in inner city crime are obtained illegally. The proposed gun legislation is intended to remove guns from law abiding citizens while the criminals who use them for violence will continue to have access to them
It should be in the city where an 18 y.o. can buy 2 AR-15s one day after his 18th birthday and one week later proceed to murder 19 elementary school children.
It should be in the state that loudly proclaims that the only thing needed to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
Well the good guys with guns, and there were many, all wet their pants when the shots started ringing out.
Arming teachers, resource officers or sigh children with AR-15s to stop the bad guys is not a solution.

Not always, no. A large percentage of murders are impulsive: The perp strikes with whatever is at hand. If no firearm is "at hand" the damage done is likely to be less.
