Maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps the goal is to criminalize marijuana dealing since there is a mental health crisis in this country, marijuana is bad for mental health, and some prominent mass shootings are related to mental illness.

The wsj mentioned this office today. The Biden regime created this office to disarm legal gun owners but does nothing about the carnage in blue cities. Kamala held a press conference on “gun control success”…in Chicago, not exactly a city known for having little gun violence

Assault rifles should not be legal. Nobody needs these for hunting.

Cars that go over 85 mph (the maximum posted speed in USA) should not be legal. Nobody needs to go that fast.

There are far more deaths from cars exceeding the speed limit than there are from assault rifles.

They aren't for hunting. They are for when you can't rely on your government to take good care of you. Either when the US government crumbles or when the US government goes against a slight minority of its citizens. If there's no risk of citizens being able to rebel and fight back then the government can do whatever they want. But if citizens aren't pushovers then whoever is trying to take advantage of them might think twice before doing it. Same with if the US gets into a military conflict. Not only does a country have to worry about fighting our military, but a decent number of our citizens also have weapons to fight with. So even if our military gets beat, going door to door taking over the United States would be a very big task. Neither of these is likely in the coming decades, but one day something like this will happen. No country lasts forever. Tens of millions of people will die when that day comes, the ability for the United States citizens to protect themselves will keep a lot of American lives alive. Gun deaths each year are a tiny percentage of what those tens of millions of deaths would be if America these bad things happened. That's why the 2nd amendment exists and should remain in place.

This is not by accident. If you can keep right wingers fearful of anything that moves and has a shadow it becomes easier for an authoritarian despot to convince them that “ only he can fix it”.

This is a very poor analogy - you should think of another one to make your point.

If a car's absolute top speed is 85mph, you'd never be able to merge properly given current infrastructure. Although rare, sometimes acceleration is required to avoid a collision. Just like with running, top-end speed matters for quick acceleration, even if you never reach that absolute top-end in e.g. 10k race.
