I doubt any American marathoner will run sub-2-08 in the next 10 years. Even with the supershoes and all the other technology. American marathoners are just not very good.
Here are the top marathon performances in 2023. Not sure how many pages you have to scroll through to find an American. Just embarrassing. If you are not challenging on the world stage just quit. Or run in your local Turkey Trot in a couple of months.
Mantz MAYBE goes 2:07. I don't see him running 2:06 or faster. His stride is not built for that. I don't see anyone else on the horizon. We are stuck with 2:10 marathoners while the best runners are running around 2:01 to 2:03.
Can I make the argument that Healthcare is a make factor in why US marathoning sucks.
Takes a few years to develop the strength necessary for the event but by the time you are 25 student debt and the need to pay those premiums forces everyone out of the sport

No, you are not allowed to make this argument.

American marathoners usually run slower courses (NY/Bos) to get the $$. Look at how fast they ran on a really challenging ATL course in the last Trials. Also check out the results from the AZ marathon that AZ Elite put on. If more top Americans would run in Valenica and Berlin we'd have guys running under 2:08 IMHO.
ZP finished 13th in the World and beat several sub 2:07 guys a couple of weeks ago. It was 80 degrees. Probably a sub 2:07 run on a Berlin type of course.

I was curious how current times compared to about decade prior. I picked 2012 and 2022 as we aren't done with the big fall marathons this year yet. If you shave off two minutes for supershoes, the times back then are comparable to present day:

You are correct but shhhhhhhhh. Everyone will find out soon enough.
I'm sure Grant Fisher is capable of under 2:05. 26:33 is a different level than any 10000 meter runner we've had. Though,j I would have expected a sub 2:05 from Rupp, too, and that hasn't happened.
Mantz has a chance, I think. Other than that, for the time being unless some of our 5-10k studs move up in distance, you're probably right.

Watching him in Boston, he didn’t look like he belonged with the leaders.
Americans are the minor leaguers of marathon running. It is what it is.
