Imagine if someone had said in 2020 or 2019 Hocker would make the Tokyo team. Birnbaums run 3:37 in high school, if he becomes a 3:33 guy in a year at Oregon he could conceivably make the team with his kick.
Despite Bobby Kersee's ridiculous claim about Mu being able to win the 1500 gold medal at the Olympics, in reality Athing Mu won't be messing around with the 1500 at the Olympic Trials.
Bobby Kersee knows that Mu has no shot at gold. He just likes to say crazy things.
Think Kessler will train through season without injury and have a big breakthrough in 2024.
Your next American 3:28 guy
As somebody who is pretty close to the group. The plan was to work on some things and build strength in 2023 then put all the eggs into the 2024 basket. 3:28 would be awesome but even a 3:30 would be pretty great.
Nuguse seems like a clear #1 and Hocker seems like a clear #2, but who gets that third spot?
Contenders:
-Cooper Teare, Old Man Centro, Joe Waskom, Nathan Green, Hobbs Kessler
Dark Horses:
-Simeon Birnbaum and Eric Holt
Nuguse and Hocker are the only 2 Americans who will be out in the Diamond League circuit consistently next year due to their achievements from this year. The rest of the Americans would need a 3:31 to be even considered to get into a Diamond League 1500m. It sucks for them but that’s the reality.
So many people disrespecting McGee. She's money. Count her in along with Purrier and probably Sinclair.
So disrespectful to not include a 1:57 sub 4 19 year old. I'm joking I think McGee has to figure out how to break 4. Until then she is not a luck at all and I think he's probably the fifth best in the country going into the next year

I think it’ll be Waskom, but Teare or Kessler wouldn’t surprise me. Centro would surprise me, but Centro seems to be good at doing that.
Crazy to see how our middle distance is finally rebounding from the gutter it’s been in. I think Nuguse could become 1500m or Mile WR holder before Jakob crazily enough. He’s improving faster and they are within a second of one another and the record now. Hocker ran a very good season for not having a good season. You shave 0.5 seconds off of your 1500m every year or two at his level and age and he’s got the real estate to be a big deal on the world stage in 2-3 years. Teare has proven he can be as good as Hocker in a time trial setting, Waskom is a great racer, and I don’t have to say a word about Kesslers potential to this message board.
