Cuz it's not possible with the current talent in the field of 100, 200, and 400
Really? He's got 200 in the bag. I'd give him 50/50 odds in the 100.
400, who knows what he is truly capable of, but he's said he could go 43 if he tried. If Norman and Gardiner aren't 100%, I think he could take it. Maybe even if they are if he really had 43 potential.
Go for the 100/200/400 triple in Paris. If he wants to surpass Bolt, gotta do something that's never been done before.
No harm in trying anyway. Would get a lot of hype going.
He could break the WR if he tried but it part of it is that the 400 doesn't have any added prestige outside of the T&F community. He's said on multiple occasions that getting the outside world's attention and uplifting this sport is one of his primary goals, and the best way of doing that is by not only breaking two records from the best known events but by also breaking Usain Bolt's records.
Plus, running the 400 sucks. People don't do it because they enjoy it, they do it because they are good at it. Look at Michael Norman. He won a world title and decided to drop down. Fred K didn't even win a world title and he decided to drop down anyway (TBF, he had ankle issues that no one knew about at the time).
Also, the schedule in Paris won't allow for it. Or really the schedule at any sort of major championship. Maybe it will happen one day but it will require a 100m runner of extraordinary talent going up (which doesn't happen) belonging to a nation that doesn't have an exhaustive national championship or a viable relay, which anyone would choose over going from the triple individual.
I think Bolt could have done the triple, actually. Almost certainly the perfect talent for it at his prime. Most certainly would have been the first 400m runner under 43.
He could absolutely run 43 with specific training. Even his coach says that he would have probably been more suited as a 400/200 runner instead of a 100 runner but Lyles wanted to run the 100 so he obliged.
Remember who the last 400 runner with a poor 100 but extraordinary top speed who also ran 19.3 ended up running in the 400?
Lyles needs to face Jakob at some agreed distance between 200m and 1500m, and Sha'Carri and Shericka need to meet Kipyegon, Tsegay, Gidey and Chebet at some agreed distance too.
This will determine the overall champions of 2023.
The race distance will be haggled over by professional gamblers to make sure it is accurate.

Hype Is only for the spectators that just want more. Noah is a 9.83/mid 19 athlete at this point. He is our clear hope for what can already be a triple 100/200/4x100. He doesn't need to prove anything in the 400 just because distance runners want to see someone bump up.
The 400 is strategic and will lead to different training than the 100 or 200. Noah is a driver. I find it ironic how there was not this push for Justin Gatlin or Tyson Gay to run the 400, when they were competitive against Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake in their own right, as well as against other less fast runners like Churandy Martina.
What you're asking for is for Lyles to risk injury and a lucrative running career for 200 extra meters. We had Jeremy Wariner. We had LaShawn Merritt.
We now have Noah Lyles and he is fine where he is.

Lyles says a lot of things that don't come to fruition.

Look at Norman. Look at Lyles. Norman is made for 400 and Lyles is right where he should be.

Here’s the thing though. If he did it, he would be a combination of Bolt 100/200 and Michael Johnson 200/400. It would be legendary.
I think he has a 25% chance of pulling it off. That’s worth trying for to become legendary.
If a 100/200 sprinter moved up and snagged the 400, that would only mean the 400 is incredibly weak right now, which it is. Went from 43.03 glory to 44 something winners in just a few years.
Meanwhile hurdlers are going 46 and even 45! 400 flat used to be more than 3 seconds faster, now it has trouble staying even 2 seconds faster. At this rate, we're eventually going to have to decide if a new hurdles WR counts as a flat WR.
1/2/4 triple is of course insanity due to the rounds he'd have to run
BUT, i fully believe Noah has a higher ceiling in the 400 than the 100
before the majority of y'all tell me that's nonsense, consider that he is just slightly more talented than his brother who grew up running the 2/4
why does this matter? because i believe Noah stayed away from the 400 so his brother could shine in an event and not always get 2nd to Noah
the odds of Noah dropping the 1 in favor of the 4 are about 1/100 maybe, at best, because the pain associated with 400 training v. 100 training are not something an already-successful athlete will take on unless slightly insane
he could maybe the 200 and 400. all three doesn't seem feasible. unless it's a really down year, AND the 400 is after the other two are done. might be a lot of injury risk in that.
Winning a 400 gold, at any point in his career, would be something to set himself apart, whether as part of a triple, double, or single

This is actually an excellent point. But if he doesn’t win a 400m in this Olympics he’ll have to do it at age 30. But maybe he can do the 100/200 double this time and the 200/400 double at the next one. That would also be pretty epic

I think we're finally discovering why track is still a niche sport... nothing is good enough for track fans....
NOAH trying for TRIPLE
NOAH injured in TRAINING
NOAH goes home DEVASTATED
Then you move on to someone else.
NOAH should do what he and his coach think is best regardless of fan base.
