The Pegasus is still the best day-to-day trainer imo. The Pegasus Turbo 2 was the cat’s pajamas though.
+1
Peg Turbo 1 & 2 were quality workout shoes. Nike shot themselves in the foot (pardon the pun) by discontinuing them and/or bringing out the horrible Turbo Nature. No one was going to stop buying super shoes just because of the Turbo's
It's a shame so few people gave the new Pegasus Turbo (Next Nature) a chance. Granted, it was unfortunately (if not unfairly) compared with a legendary predecessor, the Turbo 2. And the initial price tag of $160 (Recycled ZoomX? Lol.) was a little ridiculous for something more in line with a React-level trainer. But a solid, peg-like midsole combined with a low, stable profile and amazing outsole gave it the best ground feel of any Nike shoe in years. It was a little tight to get in, but that gave way to fantastic lockdown, something I can't remember any other Nike having in recent memory. Bonus that it was a solid half ounce lighter than the regular Peg.
If it had opened at $100 (or even $120) and dumped the Peg Turbo name for something else (even just the "Nike Next Nature"), it could have been a contender...
I was one of those writing the new Turbos off once it became clear they weren't living up to the name as true Turbo 3. However, I've seen them at a few discount outlets for cheap and have given them a try, just for walking around the store. I found them tough to get on, like you mentioned, but also extremely uncomfortable under foot. I have a pair of 39s that I struggled to like while breaking in but now have been a solid option and I thought the new Turbos could swap in. I ended up getting a pair of Vomeros on a steep discount. I really wanted to like the new Turbos because I think they look cool and have elements that should make for a solid running shoe but after trying them I just couldn't spend money on them (even at like 50+% discount).
Pegasus 36 was the best trainer I ever had. I still go through backdoors to find pairs of them when I can.
Bought a pair of 39s on discount at Dicks Sporting Goods. They're OK, definitely better than the 38s (which were def way too cushiony), but still feel kind of big and clunky. I've heard good things about the 40s though.
I do the same thing. I loved the 36s and keep trying to find them online but it's getting harder. The 37-39s have been horrible. I haven't tried the 40 yet. I've heard they're similar to the 39. I found the 39 to be hard and clunky. I can't get moving in the 39 like I can in the 36.

this
I am a little bewildered by the number of people on here who like the cushion of the 37-38s. I always felt like the strength of the Peg 36 was that I could do all my training in them if I wanted to. They were comfortable enough to do easy miles, yet fast enough to do track sessions, yet durable enough to hammer a good long run in them. As a collegiate runner they were my best friend.
I guess if you are more of a long/slow miles guy then having the cushion would be nice. But I swear against the 38s because I was wearing them when I came down with a metatarsal stress fracture. IMO, having too much cushion can be a curse.
The 39s feel a little bit closer to the 36s to me. Just did a pretty good track session in them today. But I usually have a pair of 36s kicking around from ebay or someplace that I can throw on when I want to.
I bought a pair of the Next Natures for around $75 at GoingGoingGone (which I think is a Dick's outlet site) and think they're pretty good, though not particularly similar to the Turbo 2s. For me they work for steady but not easy runs and maybe for slowish tempos, while the Turbo 2s were better for tempos, speedwork, and races. The only thing that seems odd about the Next Natures is that they don't have the last eyelet so I can tie a runner's knot.
The most plain over-rated trainer ever. I only wore them in college because that is what was given to the team. I haven't worn any Nike running shoes in over a decade
When I was growing up everyone loved the Nike Pegasus, they were viewed as the optimal trainer but recent versions are so cushy and unstable that they don't seem to be a good choice of shoe for a neutral runner. I don't run high mileage so just need something that is relatively OK, not amazing (like the supershoes).
Is it worth getting one of the old ones from a Nike outlet or just give up on it and switch to a different brand or something?
I was in your same boat and switched to the ASICS Gel Nimbus (2022 and prior versions). It feels and wears exactly like the old Pegasus did. Give it a try and you won’t look back.
Just my opinion... 36's were like running on 2x4's. Could not stand them. 37's were a little more cushioned. 38's were a dream! I loved those shoes. People have said the 37's and 38's had the same cushioning system but I noticed a difference. 39's are OK. A bit more low-profile and maybe not as good as the 38's.
I just ordered the 40's. I'm about to find out but they look similar to the 39's.
Peg 27s were one of my favorite daily trainers ever. And the Turbo 2 of course. I think the Peg 30s were the ones where I could tell a difference between shoes made in China vs. Vietnam, but I can’t remember now which one was better! I have the 39s and they are ok, not great. But I really wish they had not discontinued the Turbo.
The Brooks Launch is a good alternative if you are looking for a neutral trainer. I run everything but fast tempos and hard intervals in them. There is always plenty of backstock available and the models haven't really changed since the mid 201x's.

The 27s are super nostalgic for me because my high school coach was a Pegasus loyalist and I think the 27s were the first new pair of shoes I saw him show up to practice in. I haven't been as loyal to the line but of the models I've had the 31s and 34s standout to me. 31s I remember just being solid and putting in a great summer of training before my best season of road racing and xc in the fall. The 34s I had in the breaking 2 colorway and they got trashed from running dusty trails while assistant coaching the summer after college.

Totally agree, the 36 was fantastic but every iteration since has been terrible. Can’t get the 36 anymore as far as I’m aware.
