It´s always fun to break a record. This one qualifies as a world record and not as a world´s best. I know I was able to break this one, but I had some kind of virus ten days ago and I didn´t really know how I would be feeling today. However, I felt really good and ran a good race. To be honest this record wasn´t a difficult one for me. Sure, when you have to do it alone, it´s really tough, but I got great help from the pacemakers. Actually, they were able to help me more than I expected.
What a beast. The LRC crew had a nice debate on the post-race show about his 5000 WR prospects. Do you think he'd get it if he tried right now?
I would argue this shows he might of lost some confidence. He laughed at rojos question about pacers a month ago. Said he was the pacer. Now he admits they helped
Is he also going to attempt the 1500 gold at a WC, or gold at an unpaced 1500 Olympic final?
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I guess Cheruiyot remains the current World/Olympic champion then, since he's the last guy to front-run a championship race to victory?

Came here to say this. He actually complimented the pacemakers which you would have never seen before.
He has literally only gotten 2 records so far, both instances he thanked the pacers.
And the thing he was pointing out was that no one besides him is at the front of the race when he isnt aiming for a record and there is no pacers. They talked about championship races. How can you twist it so horribly in your head to come to this shi**y conclusion?
We are discussing the sport today. Doping has developed far beyond what it was several decades ago. It is a science and science never stands still. That's why it remains well ahead of attempts to stop or at least curb the practice.
Ah, OK. Today all records are doped. 10 years ago maybe not all records were doped? Or 20 years ago? 30 years? What was the last undoped record?
When Koch set her still standing WR 38 years ago, doping was not what it is today? El G run 3:26.00 with weaker doping than today? So looking on the improved shoes and tracks and wavelight technology, he was - what - 3 seconds faster than the best today?
Doping has developed in sports over the last few decades. That means initially it wasn't widespread. However doping was certainly prevalent in the E Bloc from the '70's and an increasing feature of distance running with the advent of blood doping and then EPO. But there is little doubt now that it is throughout top level sports and virtually impossible to get to the top without it. It has become a norm, not an exception.

I think a lot of athletes will pay for it with their health, later on in life,if they even get that far.But i suppose they dont think that far ahead, especially when theyre so focused on winning.
All the world records are doped. How many of them have been caught by antidoping? Most dopers are never caught.
Walker? Maybe, but I'm not so sure like you seem to be. Clarke? O'Brian? Doubell? Snell? Elliott? All are dopers? I don't buy this.
i ran with walker. and my coack was arch jelley.
new zealanders of the time never thought peds would any good . arch told me however all the throwers in europe used steriods and it was not hidden in any practical way. the top nz discus guy was on steroids.
also taking prize money was illegal too. but since the 1960s they took money under the table the entire circuit. there was an accepted protocol . you just could not take personal payment in your name for winning.
some distance runners in nz took injection of B vitamins B12 which somehow is ok to thhis day.
any other stuff rec drugs and amphetamines were seen as anti peds and burn you out.
quax was the only one to altitude train to battle virens blood infusions. where at the time nz guys did not know what viren was doing. except that it was weird that he did nit tie up at all. and beat faster milers in a slowish race.
in 1976 era the iron curtain boys were on everything. and with viren protocol public. you saw the rest of the world develop their full meal deal drug protocols.
today there are ped protocols that are softer and legal.
at the end of the day. anything that is very performance enhancing is goong to be banned or on the table.
so the sport is an oxymoron.
we are trying to engance preformance and shut it doen at the same time.
You do know his 2 mile WR is superior to the 3k record, right?
No, 18 meters is about 3 seconds at that pace, so about 7:21 at best. Good, but not that good.
Watch the agonized hate spew on the hate-vote machine! Am I wrong? No. The haters know they are wrong, and in agony about it. I merely bring the bad news. I burst the bubble.
Just face it, people. Jakob can't break 3:26. He can't break 7:20. He can't break 12:35. Ever. Or he would be trying to right now. Even he knows it's out of reach.
7:20 is doable for Jakob. 3:43.13 or 3:26.0 are very tough but probably possible for him. 12:35 is not happening.
Jakob is very similar in ability to El G, maybe slightly more skewed towards the 3k. He looked pretty smooth in his 2M and 2k records.
Records have become easier with the lights for certain. Pacing used to be a bit of a lottery.
