How about Max Verstappen? I think I could develop a good list….
Max Verstappen gets beat all the time. That's an awful take. Crouser is the best right now as is Mondo, but they are not better than the second best person by a wider margin. You literally cannot name the next closest competitor to Dewalter.
Brojo's - we need a UTMB Black Page to honor the epic performances by Americans. For the first time in it's 20 year history an American male, Jim Walmsley, won. And just as awesomely, Zach Miller took second. And did we mention heretofore relative unknown Tyler Green finished 7th. And we're not even done yet, because Courtney Dauwalter won the women's, and completed the first triple crown in history - winning Western States, Hardrock, and UTMB all in the same summer. Off the chart day!
I'm very stoked for Walmsley, but at least LRC has a story up for him. All they have for Dauwalter's epic summer is a bullet point link to the results. GOOD GRIEF. I hope there's no story up yet because it's taking them this long to find the words to describe what she just did...
Ultra running is not a sport. It’s just an extreme activity for a tiny number of mediocre hobby joggers who aren’t good enough to hack it in standard distances but still crave attention.
What you call a sport most professional athletes would view as an "extreme activity." You really think someone who combines agility, speed, strength, and coordination to perform a complex sequence thinks running around an oval once (or 25 times in a row) is a sport? That's exercise. I'm sure you probably knew that though and just wanted to be a dick about some actual success in American running.
Not being mean. I was responding to the ridiculous calls for a black page and the even more ridiculous comparison between ultra running and true sports. Ultra running is as niche as one can get. What percentage of people do it, 0.1%? To boast about how much better someone is at ultra running than their competitors is moronic.

Running sub 9 minute miles with 90 miles on your legs on technical trails at 27,000 feet of climbing is running and quite athletic and takes a certain mentality and skillset. I'm not saying it's easier than running a 2:10 marathon. I'm not saying it's easier than dropping 20 points in an NBA game or even making it to the NBA. And so on and so on.
Why can't we just celebrate athletic greatness at any level instead of comparing it?

I bet there are more way ultrarunners than people doing: Javelin, pole vault or shot put for example.

You could say the same about the 1500 an on. Awful athletes compared to sprinters. No one knows the best distance runners. The world only knows sprinters.
A lot more people know who Courtney Dewalteris than most sprinters. I'll grant an exception for Noah Lyles because of his beef with S A S but not his running
Walsmley first American male to win UTMB. New Course Record
Courtney Dauwaltwr wins not just her 3rd UTMB but her 3rd 100 miler of the summer....first person to win Western States 100, Hardrock 100 and UTMB In the same year. 2 of the 3 in a new course record time. She already owns the UTMB course record for women
Why do some folks here keep asking for black page for ultraers? Has it ever happened? This site seems to only care about distances up to a marathon.

I agree with your question. Why can’t people just celebrate ultra winners without calling for a black page, comparing them to Jakob (other threads) or comparing their dominance to athletes who dominate popular sports?

The Brojos and Gault have given love to Walmsley and ultras. Black page love? No. Then again, there's never been two performances from Americans at what is essentially the sports Super Bowl like we just saw. Walmsley and Dauwalter put on. Walmsely's win and CR. Dauwalter wins THREE 100 miles in literally like a 70 day time frame...and these are probably the most "Well known" 100 mile races. (I use well known because they are still a very very very very minute percentage of people who have heard of all of them).

Zach needs to be included in the Black Page too. Going 1-2 at UTMB is outta this world - and Zach represents all that is right in the world. The epitome of the blue collar runner - raw determination and guts over raw talent.
He made Foot Locker in HS. Not pro quality. Right on the fringe. He does well in training and makes an entertaining spectacle for a niche that earns him money, more for lifestyle than pro competition.
The best of the rest outside of Olympic distances cleans up in ultras. Does not mean he is that far off of pros in talent, only a little bit.
