Did Rocky Mountain HS do something to you? Almost every post you make has something negative to say about their program. 120 kids on their athletic.net roster so I imagine they value giving every kid a great experience and not just flying the fast kids to a bunch of meets. They just raced their whole roster at a meet 4 hours from their high school, that's awesome! It also seems like they take great consideration for preparing for the State Meet, one of the only "top" teams in the state that consistently goes and races on the state course (That is a calculated travel meet) just like a team deciding to go crank a fast 3 mile in excellent conditions at Woodbridge is a calculated travel meet.
For anyone interested in the 4a state title race this year, Dani Bates is going to be a great race to keep track of.
The 3 top 4a team contenders (BK, IF, Burley) will all be there, along with almost every frontrunner in the 4a individual race as well. Charlie Goss from BK the current top seed in 4a by time right now, but that comes without significant races from Luke Athay of IF(5a individual champ 2021), Jaiden Liddle of IF(Top returning time from last year's 4a state race) and Goss's teammate Isaac Edwards(2nd fastest returning time from last year's 4a state race). If all four of them run, it will make for a great front pack also highlighted by Twin Falls' Russell Frampton and Preston Dopp (current 2nd and 3rd fastest times in 4a), and BK's Manuel Valdez, Jack Tobin, and Liam Durcan (current 5th, 7th and 8th fastest times in 4a) along with the rest of IF and Burley's squads.
Both the individual and team winner of this race will no doubt be the favorite to win the 4a title if all teams are running at full power, so this meet can hopefully serve as an early season 4a state preview.
Thoughts? Predictions?
Looking at the course map and last year’s times, would it be fair to say Dani Bates is flat but not super fast because it’s run on long thick grass at the new course?
Looks like the correct order at this moment is CDA, Boise, Rocky, Centennial, Timberline, and MV for the boys and Boise, Rocky, Timberline, TR, Owyhee, MV for the girls. OP did a good job on their predictions.
Sure, and that’s no different than any thread on Letsrun. Mass downvotes tell which teams have a lot of runners on here, but it’s not something that doesn’t happen all over these forums.
I know it's a fill in meet and teams may not necessarily race their best squads, but it looks like Mountain View, Boise, and Centennial are racing fairly complete teams at the Willow Lane meet. It will be nice to see how Centennial fits in with those 2 schools 3 weeks after racing has started.
I think he'll be in the 35th-45th pocket, at around 14:30-14:45.
He's run 9:12 for 2 miles, with a handful of sub 9:30 races. 15:28 at State last year, and got 15th at Bob Firman last year, which is probably his biggest accomplishment.

The race ended up being a little slower than expected(probably due to the heat, as it was about 85 degrees when the race started). BK's Charlie Goss narrowly beat Owyhee's Carter Burdick to win the race with a 16:22.41. This was also Luke Athay's first official race back, and shook off the rust quite well with a third-place finish in 16:26.13. Ben Browning of Kimberly (16:30.17) and Russell Frampton of TF (16:36.44) rounded out the rest of the top 5.
Looking at the 4a race, it became clear that Charlie Goss is the #1 individual seed going forward (at least until someone else from 4a beats him). Luke Athay jumps right up to the 2nd spot, after a really solid first race back that only saw him finishing 4 seconds behind Goss, and ahead of all other 4a runners in the race. TF's duo of Russell Frampton and Preston Dopp take up the 3rd and 4th spots after their solid performances here and at Caldwell Twilight. After this, the waters get a little muddier, with guys like Sandpoint's Nathan Roche and Preston's Luke Visser(Faster times but didn't run at Dani Bates) and guys like Skyline's Alexander Renna (7th place at Dani Bates), Burley's Ryan Gerratt (9th place at Dani Bates) and IF's Caleb Boyle(11th Place at Dani Bates).
Team placements were more or less what I expected out of this meet, with IF, BK, and Burley running away with the top 3 spots. IF took a 13-point win over BK, who in turn beat Burley by 13 points. All 3 of 4a's top teams finishing within 30 points of each other should make for a really interesting state race in Pocatello. However, it is worth noting that BK was without Jack Tobin (BK's 3rd runner at Caldwell Twilight). With that being said, I'm still giving IF the edge over them, as they put 4 guys in front of BK's second runner at the meet, and overall ran a consistently better race than BK did.
Here's my 4a individual and team power rankings as of right now:

I predict top 50, 14:48
Tons of chatter on other threads that the Woodbridge course is long this year. Looks like a lot of athletes are measuring 3.06-3.09.
Eagle girls won their heat at Woodbridge. It looks like they would have been around 6th in the rated race. Their grouping got a lot tighter… 2-5 at Caldwell was almost 90 seconds, 2-5 was 54 seconds here. The gap between 2-4 was 26 seconds here vs. 1:03 at Caldwell. Who is their freshman? Her athletic.net says she ran 5:51 last year in track. She was 4th at Bogus but way back at Caldwell and then 18:09 here. That’s a big improvement.
