Opinions about how Sahlman ran his qualifier? It seemed like he used a lot of energy making too many moves and did not have good feel where to place himself thru the race and then celebrating too early nearly cost him. He did qualify and hopefully learning how to race at this level.

Got stuck in a box and made about 5 moves but prevailed
Nathan Mountain won the East regional steeple in 8:37. That would’ve been 12th in the west regional and he would’ve been out unless he was in the 2nd heat

West regional had perfect weather. East regional was running through brutal winds that had huge impact on times, especially on races going around the track (and had some fantastic straightaway races with that tailwind). It's comparing apples & oranges when there are conditions that contrasting.

Of the top 22 steeplers 20 had pbs and 2 had season bests!
Aidan Mccarthy under VanHoy has lowered his PB from 1:48.0 to 1:46.26. HS Mid d runners on the west coast need to see that. He didn’t even break 1:49 til regionals last year
