Najwa Chouati falls victim of coaches NOT meeting sports sponsorships. Stan State coaches have a track on campus!? How did this happen - again??
was announced in her IG page :(
These schools are ruining the sport… schools need to either sponsor or not. Pretending to care about the sport for title 9 or just to collect an ncaa sponsorship is wack and makes the sport look stupid and sucks for the kids that don’t make it.

I'm not shocked- Stan State is a dumpster fire of a university and athletics program in a dumpster fire of a city in Turloch. While I can't imagine why anyone would want to live there, yet alone run... I find it INSANE that they can't get 14 kids on their team to compete 6 times! So sad for her

This is so frustrating. We need coaches to be held responsible Not the athlete

Well, that's the thing: When coaches screw up, athletes get hurt. Lotta coaches are acutely aware of this, and it's just another reason a lot of them have bitten fingernails.
Team I help out with went through hell to meet NCAA compliance this year, but they got there. It's part of the coaches' job.
If you have ever watched Last Chance U, it's a lot like that but a 4 years school. It's in a low rent valley town with a bottom CSU ranking of 19 of the 23 universities in the system. The team gets people who are retreads who couldn't hack it at better programs for whatever reason or international kids who think "Oh California! must be nice!" They do have a beautiful Track which is why I think it's insane they can't field a team of valley kids with no other options.
Sac State canceled two meets this year and The Cal Opener at Berkeley was canceled because of thunderstorms. So a lot of meets were canceled, it might have been hard to find other pop-up meets.
I had the misfortune to race twice at Stan State this year and I'm honestly shocked how they were able to build a decent program at this nasty azz school

At least kids who have no where else to go have this opportunity. Well, at least did have this opportunity. A lot of these types of schools are going bankrupt…probably why admin has bigger things to worry about.
It’s a shame this amazing talented runner who dedicated her life to this was screwed by her coaches. Portland state and Stan State coaches need to be the ones taking the punishment- not the athlete
Have you spent much time on the campus? I have and I wouldn't call it a dumpster fire. Of course, this was nearly 20 years ago so things could have changed. Education-wise - I observed it was being OK but not the same as the school I was attending. I've also run around Turlock. I wouldn't call it an ideal place to train because it gets hot and there aren't many scenic places, but it's like many Central CA towns.Their track program at the time was small but committed, but the coaching staff was different. I liked working out at their track. It's very unfortunate that the student-atheletes suffer from these rules. All that work and potential sacrifices completely wasted. I hope there's some consideration into a rules change or somehow holding the coaches responsible versus the athlete's. It's far from their fault that their team is small or lacking support.
There are over 300 teams that make up D1 and D2 track. Two schools couldn’t hit sponsorship minimums for achieving athletes to make NCAAs- Portland State and Stan State… the more I think about it is this isn’t a rules things- it’s a coaching thing. It’s their job to recruit- maintain- and achieve very very very basic levels of standard minimums the other 300+ teams easily did. It’s lazy and now she is out because of them- maybe the rules adjustment is they get fined a percentage of salary so these kids can go run
All they had to do was call up a local D1 school and host a quick meet. It's not hard. It takes 3 hours or less to get this done. It actually take an amazing amount of laziness to not hit this. The coaches likely are part time and don't care
