As a Junior in high-school I have ran 4:47 after working hard all summer and through XC. I’ve been researching online and through YouTube about building my base, seeing people reference “zone 2” and the lower heart rate training, but when comparing it to my own runs, I can’t imagine keeping my heart rate as low as 70% of my max HR. Even after running a 4:47 mile this season, running 3-4 miles @ 8:30 pace will bring my heart rate above 160, sometimes closer to 170. My highest recorded heart rate is 204 and my resting is 50. Does anybody else experience this same issue during their training and have any suggestions?
