I've been reading and saw these described as SuperZips for being in the ≥95th percentile as a combination of income and education. How are these deemed SuperZips? They're nice but not exceptional.

A superzip is just a place with high earnings and high educational attainment. These areas have high earnings and high educational attainment.
I've spent time in both of those areas, even looked at houses in the area at some point, because we looked at relocating in the area. I wouldn't put either of those areas in any high percentile of places I'd like to live, Columbia in particular (Ellicott City isn't bad). Both are over priced. Traffic is horrible in Columbia. The schools aren't great. Put me down for a hard no on thinking a "superzip" designation is meaningful.
I lived in EC for a few years in high school. Not a bad place but pretty boring and spread out. Schools were good but even they had lots of terrible students and a growing drug problem.
Definitely had lots of highly educated professionals though. Not so much absurd wealth as NYC or Socal but great median incomes. A 40 year old teacher would be pulling close to 100k for example. Of course houses were expensive, and like i said, one of the most boring places to live, but still.
Idk what a super zip is though, or what it has to do with running
Downtown EC is very flood prone. Hard pass.
Ironic given how close they are to Baltimore.
21210 is a super zip as well - and a 99th percentile one at that.
On the other hand, Baltimore probably has a far higher concentration of zips ranked 0-10 than anywhere else. Look at Sandtown Winchester and Carrollton Ridge.
All of which proves that SuperZips are anything but.
