Having worked in a cadaver lab for the past three years, I can tell you it is nearly impossible to tear the IT band. He must have been very unhealthy/starving himself and or on antibiotics when this happened.
He still had a great high school career. NXN + 1:48.9/4:01/8:03 as a junior. He just pushed the speed too hard this season. He would have been better off coming at his natural distances, crushing his pr's, and then dropping down to the 800m off of strength and much more limited speedwork. At NAU, he just needs to listen to Mike Smith and his older brother and he will be great in time. The kid's headstrong but very talented. Rein that in a bit and you will get something really special down the road.
From my recalling of Running with the Buffaloes, your post came to mind. I think it was either Batliner or Goucher who was talented but headstrong and got hurt. Your great post just made me think of that book.
Running on pure hate has taken A-a-ron a long way but Grasshopper needs to recognize that the fire within must be tempered by wisdom and lactate thresholds.
“Battles are waged on the earth and in the heavens. Within the mind and within the soul. This battle has been won.” “By a strength outside, greater than himself. Or a weakness inside, which he cannot understand.” “Death has had no victory, Grasshopper.” “He said you could teach me a great knowledge.” “He seeks to satisfy a stronger hunger.”
Sahlman called it a tear. Online, they say that 4-8 weeks is a typical recovery time for a tear. Six weeks is typical for a severe case that requires surgery. That gives him about five months to get ready for NCAA xc nationals, though I wouldn't be surprised if coach wants to redshirt him for xc but he's ending his track season much sooner than he would have, which gives him about the same time to prepare for xc.
The way the youngs comment on posts like this makes me cringe. They’re so fake lol. Going to fit right in with the Stanford men if they don’t end up transferring
Why? Aaron is drumming up drama for absolutely no reason with this post. He could've just as easily thanked nobody publicly and it wouldn't spark this discussion. Aaron's a great runner and I wish him the best, but between conspicuously shading his teammates on socials and allegedly bad-mouthing them to others in the community, he strikes me as incredibly immature and frankly stupid considering his best teammate next year is going to be the twins' older brother (who seems to be a bit of a mentor figure to Colin). The twins' friendly response is the best way they could've handled it.
My kid has a friend on the NP track team. Word is that Aaron tends to act like an arrogant jerk at times. His ego got a bit big after NXN. In contrast, the Young brothers are loved by everyone and are very supportive teammates.
4 pages on HS boys acting like the Kardashians. A very talented, albeit odd, young runner just tore his IT band yet our focus is on a Bennifer split between he and the Youngs?
Why aren't people digging into training/diet/how the hell he managed to tear his IT band in the first place?
A bunch of grown men investing in the personal lives of children..

I mean, he's literally still in high school. I give him grace for being a little childish/immature, given that he's still a child.
Heard some horrible horrible rumors about Aaron. Definitely needs to be careful before he gets caught doing anything dumb if the rumors are true. IDK if that would affect his attendance at NAU but if it can, he really needs to check himself

So you want these grown men invested in his diet instead?

Considering that diet is a more quantifiable, more performance related, less personal focal point than his maybe-beef with other 17 year olds? Absolutely.
If you want to play semantics, let's look past the word "diet" and instead look at the word to represent talking about literally anything other than the personal relationships of high schoolers which has absolutely nothing to do with performance or injury.
I heard a rumor that he is really fast and isn't a liberal.
I have heard that cops spend a lot of time in the weight room and have pretty easy access to substances that can enhance their ability to workout? Many of those substances cause tendons to become brittle and inelastic leading to injuries? What does this young man's father do for a living?

Especially Cipro. That said, a normal round of Cipro does not appreciably increase the risk of tendon rupture and is usually innocuous. Multiple courses or a longer course increase the risk a lot more.
…typically for people over age 70. Not an 18yo hs’er.
Apologies, age> 60- not 70.
”What are the risk factors associated with FQ-induced tendinopathy/tendon rupture? Risk factors associated with Fluoroquinolone-induced tendon disorders include age greater than 60 years, corticosteroid therapy, renal failure, and diabetes mellitus”
