I recall that I once was able to supply some footage of the 1967 Ryun/Keino L.A. 1500m race that he hadn't see before, and he was appreciative because he was obsessed with that race.

Didn't find that thread in particular, but did come across this one in which he (or, at least, someone posting as ventolin) claims that his father was Keino's "immediate boss" as a policeman in Kenya.

kip was given little time off prior to '68 - he was holding down a job
& had to work most of the day - chasing cattle-rustlers
he was given a coupla off/day to train during 9 - 5, but other training was on his own time
ryun, on other hand was more or less full-time athlete ( albeit at college )
kip, however, did get a big advantage to ryun prior to '68 years to help him train :
my pa was told by hq to provide kip with a coupla chickens/week as govt contribution
all this got kip good enough to break the 3k/5k WRs - former lasting 7y
in '68, govt told pa to let kip off more police work & train nearer
full-time ( but not completely before training camp ) & throw in an
extra chicken/week
after '68, he was back to full-time police work until '72"

I'm pretty sure. Both usernames are earnest meat promoters who claim to be elite, older age group climbers and have similar writing style. I haven't seen XY (or X Y) deny being YMMV, but I could have missed that. Why would he change his user name? He was probably permabanned (wejo can clarify?). Tell me how this isn't YMMV... even citing a climber for nutrition:

Love a guy like that who can just delve into something many find uninteresting and make a whole little world out of it. Makes life more interesting with people who have passion.

It’s ridiculous on many levels, including the assumptions that there is meaningfully more oxygen in Rieti than at other tracks, that it comes from more trees, that there are in fact more trees, that the body could uptake more of the available oxygen, that it would have a meaningful effect on sprinting, etc etc etc.

While I, like all the other kids in grade 8 shop class, used to get a rush from inhaling pure oxygen from the welding tanks, that is not even close to what Vent proposed.

RIP. He was obnoxious and opinionated (probably agree with me on that) but his passion for the 800m was admirable!

He once argued with Nick Willis about Nick's 400 speed. Then Nick ran a TT (reported here by a coach) and ventolin was right.

Very fitting that his tribute/remembrance thread would consist of the typical LetsRun posters arguing like children over various claims but also the arguments would be well written and almost obsessively organized but also with name calling and insults.

I wonder how he would have been in the COVID threads in 2020. Since he loved numbers, statistics, and forecasting.
