that used to work for me but i did too much eminem back in middle school and my tolerance is too high now i need something else
Don't think about it/distract yourself (after you have sorted out tactics of course) and then hype yourself up five mins before.
I went from being too nervous to too relaxed over the years.
My best races seemed to be where I was generally relaxed all day and the race start would seem to sneak up on me and I had a rush of adrenaline right before the race as I felt I was as late to the start.
If I am ready and waiting for 30 minutes, I’d lose my sweat and my heart rate would be too low at the start of the race. Then the start took too much effort.
Just line up and do your best. You don't need to get your mind right. As long as you do your best it doesn't matter where you finish.
