Clearly you've never been to Chicago- there is literally one area (the South Side) that is dangerous. The universities that would host this event are in a safe part of the city.
I've been there often and I feel very safe.
I was recently in Savannah, Georgia and knowing that anyone could legally have any gun they want and no one could do anything about it until they open fire made me feel unsafe in public places.
That's a you problem, not a gun problem. Guns are used for defense from criminals and tyrannical governments. If you aren't a criminal you have nothing to worry about. If someone wants to carry a gun in case they get robbed, let them.
NAACP has ruled a travel ban to travel to the State of Florida.
With the D1 East Regional being held in Jacksonville Florida I am hearing that some athletes are not happy about not changing the venue and that they plan to turn this event into an opportunity to show their feelings and expose Florida as a State of racists.
It would be cool if you could be more accurate with your description of the "ban," which is nota ban at all:
"The N.A.A.C.P.'s travel advisory does not explicitly recommend against travel to Florida. But it urges travelers to be aware of the state's politics, and the organization said that “the governor and the state of Florida have shown that African Americans are not welcome in the state of Florida.”

Do athletes realize how much goes into hosting a regional meet?
you can’t just change the venue last minute. you literally have hundreds of flights, thousands of hotel rooms, timing, officials etc. this is a massive event.
i get the sentiment but this is dumb.
True but- Florida (and Texas and now Kentucky and Tennessee) have been unworthy of hosting this meet for over a year.
Certainly the antics in Florida have earned them losing any NCAA events and the decline has been for a long time.
Any state with open carry firearm laws should not host major events because they're putting college kids in immediate danger.
You can't have alcohol at an NCAA event but can you have your AR-15?

Large cities like Chicago, Baltimore, New York, LA, have very strict gun laws and that doesn't stop the criminals from breaking the law to get guns and commit mass shootings. Allowing law-abiding people to carry weapons for defense will make the event safer.

Way too late to change the venue.
Same thing happened to a black fraternity national convention in Tampa scheduled for July.
This is great that all the racists BS this governor and repub legislation has passed is on national display.
The bigotry is in the OP. Many schools competing are from Florida; many athletes competing are from Florida high schools; a State cannot be racist; you are generalizing and stereotyping. Desantis doesn't speak for Cuban-Americans or any other demographic in Florida.
A State can't be racist? That statement makes you the "Donkey of the Day". Plenty of racist ass white governors and legislative bodies have passed tons of racist BS laws forever in America. Florida is trying to go back to the 1960's and before
It's weird the lengths the media and other organizations have been going to the past month to try to smear Desantis as much as possible. I didn't think he had much of a chance, but if he's really running against just Trump and Biden maybe they're right that's too easy a win, better start the propaganda machines to discredit him.

So True! What every sporting event needs - more weapons!

This isn't new for the NAACP. They have issued warnings before when racist ass governors and repubs pass BS racist laws and policies.
Black people have been warning each other for centuries about overt BS is certain locations. We warned each other about sundown towns and counties if you knew people were traveling there.
Nevermind that Florida ranks #2 in the country for black-owned businesses. So racist of them to create policies where blacks, and everyone else, can thrive.

Sorry but they can say anything they want. People need to travel and they can’t prevent that from happening. Flying to Florida right now. And the whole flight is packed. They have the audacity to put some self proclaimed advisories in place.?! Cracks me up. Go protest in front of the Governors office

Yes, and the great majority are from the northeast. Funny how Florida is "so racist" and yet it played by far the smallest role in the Civil War and it is mostly made up of transplanted people from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, the New England states, etc.
If there is any protest, it should be one in support of the protection of women's sports. It is only a matter of time before a male/"female" qualifies for the NCAA D1 Championships and denies a real female the opportunity to go.

Agree 100% on this! And in areas where you can't carry, just use pepper spray and be aware of your surroundings. I'm a POC and have no problems going anywhere I need to go. I live in Cbus and there are weird parts even here.
Happy to say my country has no history with black people. Just watching the 💩 show in the US from the sidelines. Florida would be nice to move but it’s getting expensive for what they offer
