What strategies could i use to run a good race with people who have similar times?
Would it be a bad idea to stay fairly far back from the pack leaders and then slowly moving up or staying 3rd-2nd from the pack leadeR?
Also, I'm in high school, would it be a good idea to hang behind someone who has a better time than you by a second but a better time in the 3k by 20 seconds?
If you're in a race with similar runners, you need to be at or near the front. You don't need to lead, but you can't expect to be in 6-8th place and magically make up ground somewhere unless you have a massive kick.
I wouldn't key on anyone in particular because you never know how someone else is going to race. Instead just be solid in around 3rd-4th position.
P.S. Racing is a skill that you can learn. Small meets are perfect for practicing strategy and tactics.
