With his mediacl condition, it is by the grace of God, he lived this long. What a great life his father provided.

I remember an interview with him, I believe on NPR, and they asked him what he would wish for, and he answered that one day he could push his Dad. Saw them in Boston one year, what an inspiration they both are!
That just made me tear up.
Such an inspirational pair.
RIP Rick.
I was fortunate to meet them several times over the decades. Very nice people. There was a time when, even when pushing his son, Dick was one heck of a fast runner. He won road races, while pushing his son. Then, as he aged and slowed, he was still out there running with Rick. Not just in the big national-level races like Boston or Falmouth, but also in simple local 5ks. The kind that offered no prize money or exposure. No sponsorship dollars or appearances. Dick simply showed up with RIck, unannounced, no frills, because he was doing that for his son. Every time I saw them, ran by them, it always inspired me. RIP Mr. Hoyt.

There is so much crap in the sport now at the top, PEDs, corruption in governing bodies, and so on, that I sometimes wonder why I even pay attention anymore. But then I see something about people like the Hoyts, or see someone I know work hard to achieve what for them was a very difficult goal, and I know why I've stayed connected to the sport since my teens and will do so until the end.
RIP Rick Hoyt, his legacy will live forever. True inspiration to everyone in the running community.
My brotha Sean McQuaid is a #pushforlife Team Hoyt advocate and will be pushing lil Riley at Grandma's Marathon, he's going for the record!!
