Worst case is she doesn’t get a shiny medal? do you know how HARD it is to get to the state meet in California? But tell your daughter to quit her whining and accept it because men are telling her it’s no big deal.
Time and life opportunities move forward with no regard to fairness or your feelings. You can choose to pursue a dream in difficult circumstances, or you can whine about fairness while getting older and watching the window close. I am always amazed on how many self-proclaimed alpha men on this board so easily fall into a victim's mindset when things do not go their way.
50 states crown a champion each year creating thousands of talented "losers". Somehow, many of these also-rans find their way on to collegiate teams and with scholarships. Some even go on to become Olympians and pros. Sports is not a lottery where one winner gets a huge prize and everyone else gets nothing. If you are fast AND you market yourself appropriately, then you will wind up with the chance to continue your running career. Racing and being defeated by a transgender does not prevent that.
As stated before, state federations need to implement new rules and/or create a category for transgendered athletes. That will take time. Time is not a luxury that current high school and college athletes have. You have to play the cards that you are dealt. Winners with character will find a way. Those without a winner's mindset will fail. This is true in ALL aspects of life - work, school admissions, relationships, health, looks, etc.
Do you want to be a winner or a whiner? There are no mulligans in life plus we all get older and slower.
Trans athletes have no place in women’s sports. Not an easy solution, but it is the fairest solution.
Having a non-binary/trans category with some nominal prize money is fine too as long as it doesn’t take away from the other competitors. No one deserves to win $1000 for running 2:40 and being slower than females.
I am not trying to 'discredit' anyone. I try not to get involved with politics that don't affect me. I actually try not to get involved with politics in general. Yet this has come up a lot recently and I've been dismissive (until now). I didn't vote for this (as someone hinted at).
Obviously, for me, it's hard to understand the side that thinks a boy can compete with a girl (on even playing field). As I pointed out, I empathize knowing these two individuals are not 'trying' to cheat or anything.
Another poster asked me how my daughter felt about it. She's empathetic that this person doesn't feel like a boy. But she's confused on how to treat her as a competitor. And she's clear on if this person robs her of a place on the podium or a spot in the final that she's going to be upset. But until then, she'll race everyone and just focus on herself and doing her best on Friday/Saturday.
I'm not particularly worried about either of these two competitors...it's just the trend that worries me. And it's two of them in one race @ State, which raises some eyebrows (and fulfills California stereotypes)
There are already two girls sitting at home whose season was unfairly ended a week too soon.
i agree with everything said here but i just want to point out that the 2 girls displaced (4th in NCS and 7th in SS) are in fact entered this weekend at the state meet.
that said, i expect either the girl from buckley or the girl from sonoma to medal. not excited to see what the reaction to that is.

This folks, is the problem. If CIF had the guts, they would add a special division for non-binary athletes to compete in. Do not rob Peter to pay Paul!
I have watched videos of the two trans kids...and obviously feel bad for them knowing their life can't be easy.
My daughter has asked me about this in the past and I have assured her that it wouldn't affect her. Now she's going to have to line up in a prelim on California's biggest stage against one of them...and hopefully she'll make the final (and then face both of them).
But these kids are getting faster and this problem is not going away.
You’re lying about your daughter even running. This is a shill post for views.
Name the trans athletes. Sure.
Whether the OP has a daughter in the Championship heats is something we can't know.
That Athena Ryan pushed a girl out of the finals and is competing in the State Chmpionship is a well-reported fact.
A California athlete who took fourth place in a high school track meet gave her family in the crowd a thumbs down after losing a shot at state track championships to a transgender athlete.
Even if you don't support trannies competing against girls, if you vote for Democrat, you are creating an environment where this kind of unfairness is tolerated and, at time, emphasized.
In the same way that these two trannies will kick two girls out of the final, they will also potentially take away two scholarships from two girls at the margin that we've never heard about. You might say, "so what, those two girls weren't good enough" but in fact they were good enough, we're just allowed an unfair situation.
And what happens next year when two becomes 10? and then 30? and then 50? Are you willing to carve out 50 of the bottom-of-the-top female high school athletes? How many solid females athletes have been off-the-radar until they get to college and get in a real programs.
We're shooting ourselves in the foot by tolerating this non-reality charade. Stop voting for politicians that support a party or group that wants "tolerance".
My feelings? I am a WOMAN with DAUGHTERS. I bet you are a MAN force feeding your feelings to ME!
This is the most mansplaining of mansplaining ever. I bet if an unqualified woman took your job you would be up in arms. Take a seat my dude. You don’t speak for WOMEN!

Can I ask you what your daughter thinks about all of this and what you are telling her? My daughter, now a collegiate runner, raced Athena many times. She won a few, lost a few more. She really didn’t seem to care one way or another any more than winning or losing to any of the others in the race.
Did you ask your Collegiate daughter if she cared or not? You say that she did not “seem” to care. I would be interested.
From the video of the South Section race, it seems that patents were not on board with this. Comments were “trip her”…. Seemed to come from moms more than dads. They were saying that out loud. So they did not seem embarrassed about such thoughts.
However, I did not hear any kids say bad things. Kids seemed ok with it.
Since it’s a HS meet, maybe the kids should decide and the parents can keep their opinions to themselves.

I actually am curious about this and I agree. The hs kids should be the ones to determine what to do here. If they aren’t bothered adults should stand down.
but if they are bothered and afraid to speak up it is on adults to be their voices.

To be more direct, I’m calling bullsh*t. Winning the lottery would be more likely and why would you have discussing transgenders athletes with your daughter, anyway? The runner in Sonoma missed qualifying for state last year by about a second so the chances of your daughter being affected this year were not that small.
If there’s about a 99% chance someone is lying, it takes more than an anonymous post to prove the 1%.

What are the kids going to say? Seriously. If they say a word they will feel the depths of hell from WOKE fools for being intolerant and that would be perfectly OK to bully others that have an altering opinion that directly affects them. It's OK to be hypocritical and allow bullying in such situations...isn't it?
The left hijacked the word "science" during the covid pandemic to push their political narrative. Just another way to shut down debate by claiming the moral high ground on science.

They are not qualified to run in college so no scholarships will be lost to them.

No, it does not take time. Before the next weekend, CIF can announce the following.
1. A trans athlete will not replace anyone in the final. If one or both of them make the final, the next fastest runner(s) will be added to the final.
2. A trans athlete will not replace anyone in the award. Either make them ineligible for the award, or give then duplicate award without demoting anyone below them.
Then they will have to decide on the new rule before the next season. If they are serious about this, one summer should be good enough to come up with a solution. If they cannot, they can continue the above measure #1 and #2 at all levels, including the conference and the district.
