I am in my senior year of high school, and I am at a loss for what I want to do running-wise in college. (Sorry if a lot of this is out of order) Both my parents ran in high school/college, so there is a lot of pressure from them.
My PRs are low 19:00s for a 5K, and 5:15 for the 1600m.
I am applying to a B10 school as well as a couple smaller D2 schools.
Here is where I am torn: Do I attend a school where I may have to pay more, but is a larger, more respected school? At this school I have the potential to walk-on the varsity team. The school also has a very active/competitive running club.
Or do I attend a school that is smaller, where I could receive a decent amount of money for athletics/academics? This school is D2, but it's a powerhouse D2. This school also has a running club.
I feel like choosing the option of running club is a selfish choice, especially if there is some athletic money on the line. I also would be missing out on varsity perks.
If I choose to walk on, then I wouldnt recieve any athletic scholarships, and obviously I would be sacrificing a lot of time.
My questions for you guys; Who has run varsity or club? What is it like? How do people balance varsity/school?
