I’m looking for some new running shoes and want to support the run-specialty stores instead of buying straight from a big name brand like Nike or Brooks. Where’s my best option?

stay away from roadrunner, fleet feet, etc.
go for local stores that host community events (track meets, outlaw road races, group runs, HS xc/track discount nights)
make sure they dont push sham insoles, or other stuff you dont need
quiz the sales reps, but in a way that seems like you want help. if they cant give you the correct answers (about stack, drop, etc) and just steer you towards a brooks adrenaline or hoka Clifton, get out of there.
also ask the reps running history, 5k pr, etc
Stay away from Fleet Feet. They are too expensive and their selection isn’t that great. Also when you order shoes from there, they take forever to come in. Fleet Feet is a franchise. Therefore they have to do what their franchisor tells them to do. I

Where are you located? Find a local store that does more than just sell shoes and apparel.

Yes and find out if they were wearing cheater shoes for any of their PRs. If so, let them know you'll be talking to rojo about it before stomping out of the store in anger.
Go to an outlet store. Employees at run stores don’t know any more than you do. Go to a NB outlet. Running stores will hopefully become Blockbuster soon. Not needed anymore. Enjoy your evening jogs finished off with IPAs with plump moms bitching about their husbands if you like that thing.
