List of NCAA schools that don’t have track, some lie about it!

Ok- so then- why don’t they compete in their conference meet or NCAAs like the rest of their peers? Waiting super dad

I think this bro hyping them is not a parent but prob a coach trying to save face and stave off awkward convos with recruits that they have told that they sponsor track when they do not!!

He tries to say they sponsor it because it’s paid for by the school…. Hahah leaving out the fact that when a school “sponsors” a sport it means they officially declare with compliance at the start of each season they are “sponsoring” the sport.

NW doesn’t do that. So it’s a faux season that culminates in the entire team watching the conference championship on Runnerspace.

This entire thing is silly. Can you imagine any other NCAA sport.... let's just say Basbeall... that declares "We have baseball! We play a few games and then we go home and don't compete for a conference or NCAA bid. We're D1.... but we pretty much have the same experience because we play games in real life uniforms!"

Do you know what a sponsorship is? Maybe find a different word but if you insist on asking who sponsors it at Northwestern, it is the school's athletic department. They run more track meets than 1/2 of the schools that compete in a conference chsmpionship. If your mom turns on a big meet and sees you running on TV in a Northwestern uniform, do you tell her that you really didn't run in a track meet that day? I don't know why this is upsetting so many of you. There are about 10 schools in the NCAA which this type of charter. The B10 doesn't allow them to compete in the conference championship because they only have distance. That is the B10's rule.

The ACC. So they don't sponsor football because they don't play for a conference championship or in an NCAA championship?

The convo is over!! Rachel from nw ran a time that could have qualified her for ncaa regionals but if you look at the coaches review there is no A (accepted) or S (scratch) next to her name because even though she is on TFRRS they do not sponsor track and are not allowed to compete so her coach could not accept or decline because she was not invited to the regional race.

Sounds like they have people running in track meets- but don’t have a real track team. See problem solved everyone wins here - goodnight people

Marshall is fully back, this was there first season, they competed at conference and are sending one athlete to regionals

What a disgrace. She could be at the NCAA Prelims this week, but instead she went to a fake program and can't race. Maybe NW is it will hold a pretend Prelim race for her and label it as "Same thing!"

Someone needs to stand up for these kids even when then NW IT IS poster plays in the shade. disgraceful.

You should spend some time reading up on the NCAA rules around sponsorship instead of Merriam-Webster.

NW may pay for stuff, but because they don't officially sponsor track in the NCAA view, their athletes cannot attend the NCAA championships. For some kids (especially the ones that could go pro) that would be a deal breaker.

There are also some schools that Sponsor Track but the conference they are in does not. So the athletes can still qualify for NCAAs but do not have a conference championship. The Pac 12 is an example of this, they do not sponsor indoor track but you can still qualify for NCAA indoors and race the entire season.

I'm just going to point out that of you to the athletics website and click on the list of sports, track and field is not on it.

The school itself says they don't have a track team.
