I am entering my junior year of high school (m) and I want to drop my times in XC significantly, I currently have a vague understanding of a good summer training program and need some help. My xc training in terms of mileage last year was 15-20 miles per week in June, 21ish to 25ish in July, 24 - 29 in August, and then in September it began to drop again with 16ish miles a week, October, 20-27 miles. Early November my season ended and then I took a 2-week break and started track training. My track training entailed much more mileage, but my highest mileage week was still only 34 miles.
My current times 5k : 20:03, 3200 : 12:20, 1600 : 5:28, 800 : 2:16.
I would definitely say I favor speed and lack endurance.
My goal is to reach sub 17 in this xc-season but I need help forming a summer training program and what my mileage should be looking like including, double days, when I should be introducing speed workouts, etc. I would really appreciate an outline of a weekly workout schedule, giving the purpose of each days workout, and also showing me how my mileage should be increasing week to week. In terms of when I'm starting to train, it's right now and my tryouts are in the first week of August.
Thanks,
