Leah Stephens a senior from Olney Md ( Our Lady of Good Counsel HS) absolutely crushed her 3200m run this past Saturday at the Dogwood Track Classic in Charlottesville Va. The meet is held at the University of Virginia Track and this Saturday had excellent conditions. Leah started out the race taking an immediate lead and would carry that through out the race. Her first 400m spilt came in at 68 sec followed by a 4:50 mile split. With the crowd cheering her on Leah managed to dip below the 10 minute mark and beat the field by nearly 300m. Leah's time is the 2nd fastest time ever at the Dogwood Classic for a HS girl in the 3200m only bested by Weini Kelati in 2016 who ran a time of 9:53.4 in 2016. Leah's time of 9:58.79 is the fastest time I can find by a High School girl in the 3200m from the state of Maryland and as of this writing is currently #9 in the United States. Leah will have a couple more times to reduce her record time one being at her home field at Good Counsel High School on May 19th-20th at the WCAC Track and Field Championships
