Hmmm. Maybe time for Girma to stop being known as a SC specialist. Maybe this guy should just focus on the 5000.
I’m a bit on the other school of thought. I’d like to see him take a crack at the SC WR. He’s in a bit of a Cherono/Shaheen predicament.
The steeple needs a skillset which I don't think he has. There are people who can run very fast flats with non-corresponding times on steeple. Girma and Ayana come to mind.
I look at the WAY he sprints. If he gets into wicked shape, he could make the 200 team—but not the 100. CC also has some bad form, at speed, but he has an exceptional component: the even and sustained acceleration. Norman has no such outstanding component to compensate for his evident inadequacies.
He is no Kerley. Kerley had the possibility of 9.7’s with his form, Norman IMO does not. With CC back, Norman is out for sure.
I would love to be proven wrong, and there are few things I would like to see more than Norman taking one of those 100m spots, believe me.

Regardless of what event he should run, you can’t be too critical of a steepler who ran sub-8 three times in their age-21 season and already has three global championship silvers. There’s absolutely no comparison to Ayana and her old 9:22 PR.
