Unfortunately that's only partially true Alan. Greg did run that time, but another Michigan runner ran faster. His name is Herb Lindsay. I'll let you do the research. Herb resides in Michigan still and he did run faster.
WA may still report a time even if it’s not submitted for certification as a national record. Although they apparently won’t report 10-mile splits in half marathons.
Meyer's 46:13 was the 'record' that was supposedly beat today. When Greg set it in '83 it was also the WR.

Good call mate!!!! This poster is correct, Lindsay has the record. Herb was a beast beating Viren and everyone else at the Midland 15k.

Correct sir! I’m surprised only one poster knew what Herb Lindsay did whether he’s from Reed City or not (Herb’s hometown).
Isn’t Alan an older guy? I’m not from Michigan but even I knew that:):):). Yeah, I feel smart and informed and I’m only 26!
The 46:06 didn't count for american record because it was point-to-point, but he smashed that course record which is a difficult course. Wasn't aided by tailwind either, it was a slight headwind. And then he ran just over 43:00 at the 15k a few weeks ago on a warm humid day, American record is high 42 so he wasn't completely far off that one. He is running incredibly well this year, and is still planning to focus steeple this track season. He could pop off some good steeple races this year if he is running PRs on the track as well.
It is very interesting to click on the live results to the right and see the age group distribution. It is like a perfect curve seeing the leaders paces slow with age. It is sort of a wake up call for those of us that mistakenly believe from time to time that we can hit or paces of yesteryear if we just train a bit more.
We can't outrace father time.
And then you look at what Sara Hall is doing. (She turns 40 in 2 weeks).
She ran faster than anyone male or female age 39+. (Definitely an outlier on that curve!)
