Hey yall, needing some help with a running related injury. For background, I'm a 20 year old college runner who trail runs in the summer, so I'm very accustomed to high mileage/high intensity stuff. Last summer I ran a race (50 mile trail) and a few weeks after, I started gettin a weird sensation in both of my feet. Starting kinda on the ball of my foot, it feels like my foot starts to fall asleep and then becomes more and more painful, like a burning/pins and needles around mile 3-4. I have run a 50 miler before and had no issues, so I'm not sure that's what it was. Anyway, I thought it was just the shoes, so switched those, and had the same issues. Christmas break came and I didn't run for a whole month-ish (Nordic skier) and came back to school only to find that the pain was still there. Went to the podiatrist and he had no idea, so I went to a runner-focused PT in my hometown. He was pretty certain it was metatarsalgia and gave me some exercises to do and some metatarsal pads to wear. Fast forward 2 weeks with doing all of those and wearing the MET pads basically 24/7, he told me to run and feel it out. At about the 2-3 mile mark my feet promptly felt like they fell asleep.
Some people have told me that it could be CECS or tunnel tarsal syndrome, but I have high arches and stretch vigorously, which doesn't really go along with those conditions. I have changed shoes 3-4 times, gone back to old trainers, used insoles, and basically done anything to no avail. Does anyone else have a similar story?
