I'm starting this thread for two reasons:
1) I love discussion of running topics.
2) Soon, I am going to create a website full of information & resources related to running, that I wish I had easier access to when I was younger (hopefully similar to a running wiki or FAQ type thing).
I've been an avid letsrun reader since early high school because I wanted to get better and found this was the best place to learn about the sport. There's a LOT of crap, but there is also so much information going back years that connects me to different generations of athletes, but most importantly, it allows me to learn more about different training ideas.
Now, for the sake of discussion (and for helping help others):
What are training ideas/thoughts/questions/etc you wish you had learned earlier or had at least been pointed in the right direction of?
or
What is something running related that you find interesting, that you wish there was more discussion of?
Examples:
Why using different length tempos is beneficial (15-30 min vs 40-60 min vs longer).
Should I do intervals or tempos?
Why do you need easy days? What is "easy"?
Predictor workouts?
How do I build a base? Summer of Malmo?
Why do doubles? Triples?
Do I need to run 100 mpw? 50? 150??
Where does cross training fit in? Do you have to be injured to use it?
How fast should I increase mileage?
How should I train if I am more "Fast-Twitch"? What about "Slow-Twitch"? How can you tell which you lean towards? Does it matter?
Do 800m runners need a long run? Milers? 5kers? Does anyone besides Marathoners?
What event should I train for?
etc.
Discus.
