No, it's not true. There's a world of difference between having a public sphere that excludes women and having a few social settings that are sex-segregated by social convention. Nearly all societies have had the latter.
Are we talking about "birthing people", "self identified women" and "open"?
It should just be called the XX division. "Biological females" is not a real scientific phrase, it means whatever the reader wants it to mean.
You are right that “biological females” is not a well-defined term of trade among scientists discussing these issues.
But it’s not so simple as “XX”, there being women with just 45,X that even the transphobes would consider as women that have a uterus and can carry a baby to term with an implanted embryo; mostly fertile women with 47,XXX, mostly infertile men with 47,XXY, even 46,XX individuals with male genitalia, etc.
This thread will draw the trolls like flies to dung. For now at the WA/national governing body level, it looks to be a done deal. I don't even know why rojo is starting yet another thread other than he's incredibly insecure about it all. Poor entitled spoon feed baby!
If that's the decision, that's the decision and it will likely stick unless there is forthcoming scientific evidence that definitively documents that M to F transgender runners under hormone suppressants and surgery do indeed perform at a level of about 12% or less than they would as males (after a given number of years, not 12 months as was the case). Fine.
How am I insecure?
The more I think about this. The more absurd it is. Martin Navratilova of all people was cancelled because the trans lobby is so aggressive. It's absurd.
We spent 20 minutes on the podcast yesterday and there was one thing that never came up. And it would have addressed your point. And it hit me when I was on twitter this morning. Here it is:
Repeat after me. "Women are not men with lower testosterone." I guess in the name of tolerance I wish the photo said "Female are not males with lower testosterone."
When trans talk comes up, I think people in trying to be tolerant often miss the forest for the trees.
It's now all very clear to me. I don't care if they come up with a study showing with testostone suppression reduces performance by 40%. See the tweet above.
We simply tell people even at age 6 - sports is separated based on sex, not gender. You need to compete based on your sex at birth.

I think that boys and men should be able to practice and play volleyball, field hockey, tennis doubles, rugby, ice hockey, basketball, soccer, American football, water polo and other sports amongst themselves in siutations and according to rules that don't require them to hold back or make allowances and accommodations for the different physical size, strength, speed and susceptibility to injury of female team mates or opponents.
I think that boys and men who do sports should be able to take a leak, change their clothes, shower, take saunas and steam baths, etc. and engage in "locker room banter" in facilities that are male-only too.
How considerate of a segregationist TERF to think of male-only spaces for male well being.
My god, as intelligent as we are collectively as a species, to be having this argument as to whether or not men can be women is truly fascinating. So many different angles to examine this peculiar situation we find ourselves in. Can't wait to read in the history books about this particular brand of collective hysteria.
Once the fairness in women's sports is protected, some people all of a sudden discover the need for men to socialize in their own space.
What a surprise!
Just stop. It's not a radical or rightwing argument.
I know you and RunRagged are not rightwing. You are simply forming an unholy alliance with Rightwing Cultural Warriors.
So can you answer the question posed by Wise Old Man? Which locker room should Chris Mosier use? Should men be allowed to socialize without Mosier's presence?

Not having access to men's locker rooms was a serious impediment for many female sports writers. There is an episode on this topic in "Nine for IX" series on ESPN.
Having an Open category can work for mass participation events, but it doesn’t work for elite level track and field where there’s quotas and qualification.

Rich to think that people who think differently from you are the ones that “miss the forest for the trees”. Acknowledging gender dysphoria and inclusivity towards trans and intersex — as well as what form that inclusivity takes in sports — is a societal choice to make, not a “repeat after me” self-evident dictum.
A "female only" and "open" category works for sports like athletics. But it doesn't work across the board for individual sports like wrestling, boxing and judo, or for team sports that involve tackling, body blows and pile-ons like rugby and American football. Nor does it work for other sports that involve a lot of rough physical contact such as checking, elbowing and accidental collisions; ; or which involve the likelihood of players hitting each other with implements like hockey and lacrosse sticks, or being struck in the head or neck by projectiles traveling at high speed like balls and pucks.

My daughter played JV boys hockey in high school and there weren't any issues that I was aware of. She wasn't allowed in the locker room and usually didn't have any problem with finding an empty locker room to change. According to high school association rules, it had to be approved by the athletic director and she couldn't play on the girls team in the same season.
I agree but this "open" competition should be held at the PARALYMPICS and not the regular Olympics.
They would get the same opportunities are the long jumper who insists on jumping off his blade leg instead of his biological leg. The same opportunities as the wheelchair racers.

I believe there is a Gay Games that is held. I don't know how they deal with transgender athletes, but that seems like the proper venue for transgender athletes to get high level competition.
