this zane robertson saga has my attention, having abandon the site for years.
there are so many elements of the saga that hit the sport and athletes at the soul and core.
first, the response to a confessed doper and the penalties imposed, mean that NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WILL EVER CONFESS.
so the sport is shooting itself not in the foot but the head.
then there is karma, where Zane has pissed off a lot of people, deserving or not, which led to his fate.
then there is the idea that Zane's speaking out against dopers in the past, and seeing that nothing was effectively done, and with the covid years, injury, lack of cash, and very lousy country to restart in of new zealand, (once was great), he said screw it, i'll take the EPO, compete on a "level" playing field and have a basic income, and we're only talking about $100k max or something for years of very hard work and dedication.
even if Zane is a total pr**ick, i'm thinking about offering the guy assistance and a job.
i kind of support anyone who puts in the miles and dedicates themself to this odd ball niche sport, which i love.
i put myself in his shoes easily, been in the 3rd world, been in NZ, ran, did OK, injured, never did PEDs, but would I? under the circumstances?
i'd like to say i would take PEDs but this cheating business isn't in the ethics.
with PEDs in moderation done right is a very healthy thing to do, and basically the sport brings you to exhaustion, hit the wall, injury at some point and it's not a pretty sight.
basically this saga gives the people here to soul search and proceed to enlightenment.
right now, the response it totally self destructive
